Rip Off The Band Aid, Do it Quickly, Do it Early, and Get on With It

This to shall pass. Biden made the right move in Afghanistan. A true leader does what's right, takes responsibility, takes his beating and keeps going. Biden can deal with this, he was born for this and is in the right place at the right time. Afghanistan is a tragedy, it's always been a tragedy and we should never have been there for 20 years to begin with. By getting it done now, early in his term, was not just right, it was also politically astute. The country will have moved on from the shock by the mid-terms and so will the media.

term. He picked Harris to groom her for the nomination/Presidency for 2024 and to work towards finally achieving a female president. Biden chose to close this Afghanistan issue so it will be a blip on the radar for the 2024 elections.

Biden saw the need for leadership to right the wrongs of the TFG. He was the right person at the right time for D nominee for President. It was a squeaker, but he closed the deal with the 2020 election.

Biden knows the score and has the self-awareness not to go a second term. Why do you think Harris is seen by his side a lot? I mean...A LOT. Strategists are looking at all ways subtle and overt to fuse the two togther in the minds of the electorate. Conversely, Harris is given a leading role on other issues to shine independently. Biden and Harris GET the mentor/mentoree relationship. Biden genuinely wants to groom Harris and use the pulpit of the Presidency to give her every single advantage going into 2024.

Of COURSE Biden can't say that he won't run for re-election now. That will come after the midterms.

The timing of Afghanistan now--at this stage of a first-term Presidency nonetheless--allows memories to fade easier come midterms and next Presidential election.

...if Biden can pull it off successfully, and get everyone out without casualties, including our allies, then the American people will likely reward him for his leadership. The Republicans know that. This is not the winning issue some of them may think it is.

But to make the right decision for national security and humanity. What is the saying? Do well by doing good. Although he also is politically savvy and takes the long view, it is not his priority.
