One issue with evacuating Afghan nationals is their current inability to fill out the paperwork.
How about this?
Suspend the paperwork. If a person worked for the US in any capacity, they almost certainly know an American citizen. So have them do no more than name an American who can identify them. Contact said American to verify. Based on that verification, evacuate the person and their family to a US-approved location. Qatar? Guam? Diego Garcia? East Overshoe? Wherever. Once there, let them fill out the formal paperwork. If they fail the background check, return them to Kabul.

(4,986 posts)Get them to Guam and then sort it out further. Im sort of ashamed I couldnt quite absorb the urgency of Rachels coverage of Guam as a waypoint for processing refugees. Have been fairly wrapped up with Texas chaos in fighting for voting rights and pushing for vaccines/masks. Been a lot, but we owe it to them and our troops.
Stopped because the paperwork trail ends due to defunct contractors? What other common snafus could be cleared up with someone who can attest to these folks work with US troops? Women with Afghan government, press, or university credentials who couldnt possibly escape with Ghani, etc.?

One of likely many problems using contractors.
