Normally it's dogs who receive attention for their heroic acts. Now, it's a cat's turn.
Thanks to one frantic feline, an 83-year-old womani in Cornwall, England, who had fallen down a ravine was found and rescued. Her pet, a black cat named Piran, had meowed relentlessly at the point where she'd fallen, leading a neighbor who had been helping search crews right to her.
Now, members of the search team are calling the cat a hero.
"Without the cat waiting at the gate to that field, it could have been hours later that I or anyone else would have checked there," the neighbor, Tamar Longmuir, told Sky News. /snip

(12,469 posts)And that cat saved her life.
My cat Othello saved my life too.
Cats get very attached to thier human companions, and they are sensitive emotionally and they are often heros even when the media hasen't pointed them out.
Cats do care, about us. They know love and show that love. Having the trust and love of a feline is precious and to be cherished.

He finally grew to large and went to a preserve which I visited two years later and as soon as he heard me talking with his new caretaker he bolted to me and tried to jump into my arms which ended up with the both of us on the ground where he nuzzled me the same way a house cat will do with the exception of his fur was more akin to sandpaper than you would expect.
It changed the way I felt about cats forever.

(8,203 posts)We mammals are much more emotionally alike than we humans used to think.
I wonder if someday we'll learn more about the emotional life of insects and reptiles and find out that we have much in common with them, too.

(12,469 posts)I banged my head on a cabinet door(omg it hurt) and Othello ran to me giving me the concerned look.
He jumped on the cabinet to comfort me and I bent down to kiss him and he checked out the spot where my head was hit by the cabinet. He licked it.
Or kissed my head to make it better like I do to him if he falls or gets his tail stepped on by accident.
Than he accepted my cuddles. He's a rather skittish type ,but he watches over me.
He checks me everytime I hurt myself by accident.

(21,449 posts)because she associates it with pain, due to shots and spaying surgery. She has a very strong sense of personal physical boundaries.
I use a skin toner on my face that has salicylic acid (aspirin) in it and a medicinal scent. One night I saturated the cotton pad a little more than usual. Left a stronger medicinal odor on my face and hand, plus the cotton pad.
The cat was just outside the bathroom door when I came out. She sniffed the air and stared at me. When I lay down to sleep, she sprawled next to me, snuggled close to my body. She never does that. Usually, she just gives me a good night rub and moves to foot of the bed. She stayed next to me all night.
I think she thought I'd been wounded and needed company to feel better.

(15,237 posts)They are brother and sister. The male is large around 17 lbs and female is about 9 lbs. We go to a vet clinic so they get a different vet almost every time. When you could go into office with them they behaved and shockingly purred. I always get compliments what nice cats. Now that you cannot go into the office we still get reports what loving cats go figure.
Years ago we had a Siamese that loved to ride in the car. When you passed the vets office she would cry and hide. The first time we saw this surely not, drive into the parking lot she would cry and hide. We even had a cat who notorious for playing in water. My conclusion there is wide variety of cat personalities. Sometimes the differences stand out. I have no doubt there are Lassie cats out there.

(21,449 posts)who hated the vet's office. Most of them would not take him again after his first visit because he was so difficult to handle there. I finally found a vet whose practice was primarily farm animals but who took pets two afternoons a week. He just laughed at the cat's growling and hissing. He wore a long leather glove, grabbed the cat, gave him a shot, and put him back in his carrier before the cat knew what was happening. The vet told me that if he could handle a bull, he could handle a cat.
I had one that was half Siamese who loved the attention at the vet's. He cooperated with them completely.
My current cat raises such a fuss that they use Felliway, a sedative, and a muzzle whenever she is there. They refuse to clip her claws and will only treat her for vaccine updates and if she gets sick. Fortunately, she is very healthy.

(777 posts)He'd stand up on the table, front feet on the vet's chest and nuzzle his beard. He also liked to ride in my truck. "Wanna go for a ride?" And he'd jump up on the counter ready to be scooped up and taken out to the truck.

(15,237 posts)Cat loving Vets are so unusual I am sure Vets everywhere are stunned when they meet one. Surgery, shors and pills do not seem to disturb my current pair. Now a bath in water might be another story.

Random Boomer
(4,168 posts)I've been feeding him daily for 6 years now, but he will still skitter away if I try to touch him. But he lets me get quite close most of the time, at least when I have food to offer, and when we're working in the garden he'll come out and just watch. Yesterday I was sitting in the backyard porch swing and he ambled over and sat down nearby. He'll also stand on the back porch and stare at our back door. We'll sometimes leave the door open and he'll poke his head in, but he never stays long and he'll dash away if we move about too much.
wryter2000
(46,045 posts)Sounds like he's not going to come around. One of mine was really shy for a couple of years. She was also afraid of the other one, which I can understand. He's really macho. Finally, the shy one got so thirsty (It was hot, and I didn't realize their water bowl had been tipped over) she had to come into the yard for water. After the other one allowed it, she started hanging out in the yard and then closer and closer to me. Finally, I was sitting in a chair with the brave one in my lap, and I reached my hand down. She eventually came to me to be petted.
She had been adopted by someone else in the neighborhood first. I got her when that person had to move. So, she had made friends with a human before me.
BTW, I refer to their sexes, but they're both neutered.
