in all of my 73 years. He transcends the idea of politician. He transcends the idea of presidency. I won't live to see another of his ilk. I hope that you do. And I hope that you young legislators learn from the best, because he is.

(406 posts)But the Covid crap and everybody whining. Fix it now or you aren't doing your job. I just hate whiners and our country seems to be infested with them. As does the world. Nothing is contained within a single country. We are a global entity and it is all tied in together. Therefore, our leaders must be able to not only lead their own nations, but somehow negotiate with other countries. Covid is not deterred by manmade borders.

Afghanistan, well, that is bad, no question about it......it LOOKS like not enough was done to prepare for was has always been INEVITABLE

(406 posts)At least you should. And I think that Biden does that. You can't change people who don't want to change whether they are American anti-vaxers or Afghanis.

(16,926 posts)he had NO CLUE about the job - the 'statecraft' - the 'leadership' - the 'commitment' - the RESPONSIBILITY of the position.
Joe has seen it all from his years in DC - and has learned his lessons well.

(406 posts)And very few have it. I would suggest that perhaps Lincoln had it. I don't know anyone in my lifetime, however, who seemed to be able to leave his ego behind and do what he saw was the right thing regardless of personal consequences, to make the resolution somehow more tolerable to all parties. I'm not saying he has no foibles, as we all do, but in his job, he is superb.

(53,776 posts)but who expected the Afghan army to fold like cheap suits in a matter of a few days. He doesn't make the logistics decisions. The military does but they didn't expect the Afghanis to give up so easily either. They thought they had much more time.
But now that the evacuation is under way, I'm glad Joe Biden made the move that had to be done after twenty year of lost national treasure in training soldiers who ultimately wouldn't fight for their own nation.

(58,785 posts)when he was able to run, but also believe he's not nearly so unique as some imagine. Sure, not many have as many years of experience, including in the WH, but personal ability and principles, absolutely.

(1,910 posts)Rachel just had on a guest who spoke to a bunch of people at the airport in Kabul. A few hundred troops with zero supplies. The soldiers are saying they do not even have barb wire to establish the perimeter they need to establish. They said the surge in state department personnel they were promised yesterday never arrived.
Sorry, the administration needs to get its head out of its tail on this matter.

But I really get tired of blame, and even more of misplaced blame.
Though I was already signed up, I was not looking at DU in 2016, but I was looking elsewhere, and I'm thinking this is starting to look a whole lot like 2016.
On a separate but relatd topic, I also wish people would stop asking/petitioning elected officials to so something which is not their job. I just received an email from someone who should know better asking me to petition President Biden to tell the DOJ to prosecute Trump** Why can't people see that that would be one of the worst kinds of corruption? Telling the DOJ to prosecute someone who happens to be a political enemy? No, Joe is not going to do that, and stop asking him to! If you want the Department of Justice told to prosecute Trump**, tell them yourself. The DOJ represents the people, and you're a people.
When Republicans claim Nancy Pelosi is responsible for Capitol Security (in case you missed it, she isn't), I expect that - from Republicans, even ones who know better, because they don't care, they just want to hurt her. I don't expect such from Democrats, Liberals, Progressives.
I apologize for letting what was supposed to be an expression of gratitude turn into a rant. But I think I'll leave it.
