NEW from THE TRACE: Missouris Second Amendment Sanctuary law could complicate police efforts to solve gun crimes. Ten other states this year have enacted laws that prohibit state and local police from enforcing federal gun restrictions. But Missouri goes further by allowing fines of $50,000 dollars for agencies whose officers violate the statute. City and county officials have said that the law may stop police from testifying against gun offenders in federal court, tapping federal resources to solve local shootings, or working with federal agents to disrupt firearms trafficking. Meanwhile, victim advocates and law enforcement officials say it could hamper attempts to disarm abusers and prevent local authorities from reporting stores for failing to run background checks. Jennifer Mascia has more on the states new law, which goes into effect on August 28.

Why are guns so important that they seem to have rights not afforded to other inanimate objects?
The gun industry has money. Money buys politicians. Local politicians sell for less than Federal politicians. That's why all this gun nuttery is happening at the state and local level.
Ordinary people have VOTES if we would just pay attention and use them.

(68,780 posts)2. I don't understand why gun-nuts are so anxious to have pro-gun laws.
Don't they see themselves as intrepid, anti-government outlaws, free to do whatever they want without restriction, beholden to none, that kind of thing?
Why do they need laws that validate their murderous pathology?

(14,559 posts)4. It seems to me that the worst gunnutters, say somebody who could sell
almost three dozen modern guns and still have enough to feel 'safe', have a real inferiority disorder.
Some equate it to penis envy, some to simple paranoia but in any event validation seems like a big deal for them.

But it seems hoarding, toxic masculinity, modern highly effective pro-survival propaganda, overcompensation/inadequacies from childhood trauma, and/or actual aesthetic appeal of guns all contribute to gun nuttery.
