Although clearly, as a relatively small island nation it's a fuck of a lot easier for them to control who gets in than most countries.

We had a total lockdown for 6 weeks last March/April and then opened up internally with border restrictions. Anyone coming into the country has to spend 2 weeks in managed isolation and quarantine and pass 3 consecutive negative Covid tests and then they're out in the general population with no restrictions except wearing a mask on airplanes.

This is the first time the whole country has gone back into total shutdown since April 2020 although there have been two or three small partial lockdowns in Auckland where breakthrough community cases have been shut down after a few days by contact tracing.
