I just can't figure it out. Are they so out of touch that they don't know that the virus lives in your nose? Is it a timid "no masking" protest? Does anyone know anyone who does this?

(34,086 posts)a lot of kids don't care, or are oblivious, or prefer to suck on their masks rather than keep their nose covered (some can do both!) some kids said they can't breathe (which isn't true considering i've heard that from a few kids with flimsy, one layered material masks).
my daughter's mother in law (ex trump supporter) lost her partner to covid, she had a stroke (covid related) and has the beginnings of dementia. she lets her mask go under her nose even tho my daughter repeatedly tells her to cover her nose (especially when she's holding the grandbaby!)
i think part of it is the dementia but also part is "i don't like masks"
under the nose parents are either ignorant to the fact that even tho they are vaxxed can spread the shit, or they don't give a rats ass about other people's kids because i see lots of them either without a mask or chin masks or below the nose masks when they are indoors around other people's kids

(34,117 posts)Nor do I ever have to grab it to readjust it.
I put it on, and it stays in place.
It baffles me that people can't properly fit masks after more than a year of this.
I'd say it was deliberate, except that my spouse's response when I ask her if she was masked in places which she knows are risky is, "I had it with me" as if carrying the mask is some magic talisman that will protect her. (She does have mild cognitive impairment . . . maybe that is the issue with everyone else, too.)

(38,021 posts)A lot of masks slip down when the wearer speaks. I'm not saying there aren't a bunch of dumbasses who deliberately wear their masks under their noses. I'm just saying, a lot of masks are ill-fitted or are prone to slipping off the nose anytime the chin moves.

(3,659 posts)but I see strangers doing it all the time. My wife recently had an outpatient procedure done at our local hospital, and I witnessed a number of hospital staff wearing the mask below their nose.
I also see a lot of people, in crowded locales no less, wearing the damn thing under their chin. I mean, you had the right thought to begin with, so at what point did you decided it's advantageous to your health to throw caution to the wind and go 'commando?'

(13,059 posts)You would think that as an MD he would realize that if the nose is exposed then the mask is totally ineffective. Or maybe he knows but he just doesn't care.

(3,742 posts)Showing the nose is showing one's 'knows'.
The ego is always claiming, without bona fides, to be the best, east or west, saying "I know, I am superior".
The owner of the ego, being too subjectively identified with the fickle and changing ego, takes any opportunity to exert dominance and demonstrate 'specialness' through even so little as a nose flash...
We all have egos. We all have buddhi (wisdom).
Those with some objectivity use buddhi to see and seek reality rather than the echo of too much "me, my, mine", the subjective sounds of ego.

They don't wear the mask properly because they don't believe in masks, but someone is pressuring them to wear one.

(10,178 posts)It's considerate of them to cover their germy mouths, but they're foolish to not filter the air that goes into their lungs via their nose.
It's not clear to me why someone would even bother with a mask and not cover their nose.

(10,780 posts)saw this in the grocery and my job when I worked. At work, we were told to tell them to pull up the mask or no service.
And it is all sorts of people doing it. In public, I just move away from them
