I get the outrage of the treatment of Afghani women. As a woman my heart bleeds for them.
However look inward at our own history of OUR TREATMENT of WOMEN.
The GOP whine and said the women of Afghanistan should be released, here? Why so you can treat them the same if not worse than the Taliban?
This country has a sorry history when it comes to women. They have done everything in their power to deny our votes and the rights over our bodies.
Their prez said he loved to grab women by the p***y. Gaetz is under investigation for trafficking women.
Here are a few quotes from the GOPee on the treatment of women in America. They are no better if not worse the Afghanistan.
A GOP congressman once lamented not being able to call women sluts anymore
Rep. Jason Lewis on the Jason Lewis Show, a syndicated radio program Lewis hosted from 2009 until 2014 with the tagline Americas Mr. Right. In one instance, while arguing that young single women vote based on coverage of birth control pills, Lewis said those women were not human beings and were without brains.

"bimbo," "blood coming out of her wherever," "fat pig"
Snopes. True.
All true and more. They aren't the Republican party, they are the repugnant party and their stupid display of caring for women and their rights is down right pathetic.

(83,750 posts)Very sad how you made no comment about the AFGHAN or AMERICAN WOMEN.
Obviously the correct word and spelling is far more important than women's lives and how our country and theirs treats them, socially, verbally, physically, and economically.
Hmm, popped in after years of silence to dump on my thread. Gotcha.

(51,590 posts)I think that is what I have been my entire life. When I was in 7th grade I chose "abortion" as my subject for my first research paper. That was an eye opener for me. That was 45 years ago and things haven't changed much as far as I am concerned. White, somewhat older men are so fucking entitled in this country I am ready to puke. Men rule the world and look at how fucked up it is and has been. Men are in the positions of power in the govt., in business and in religion. No wonder the world sucks. Thousands of years of male rule in every area and every level has put us in this shitty environment. It is far past time for women to be in the positions of power, they certainly couldn't fuck up the planet and humanity any more than the men have since, well since...forever. All of my female and male friends and family feel the same as I do.

(83,750 posts)It has always been older white men in charge and they are fucking us up so badly I am unsure we will survive this. Time will tell.

(35,661 posts)We should advocate that men resign and let us take over across the world. Because it absolutely is a fucked up world to the point where it looks like the whole planet is going down. And it is mainly because of them and their greed/power thing and their fucked up hormones.
I also think that we should figure out a way to get every Afghan woman out who wants out. Then find places for them in civilized countries. Those women are no doubt traumatized from decades upon decades of abusive male behavior.
It would be a totally fair thing for women to take over. Hey, men had their chance; now we have ours. After 200 years we might consider letting them have a little responsibility, at least if they can control their aggression and hormones.

(13,058 posts)But lets face it, women under the Taliban will be treated much worse than they are here. That isn't to say that our treatment of women is perfect by any means, but at least American women don't have to wear a burqa to go out in public. And it is illegal for a husband to beat his wife in this country, unlike under the Taliban.

Ain't it grand, we don't have to wear a burqa.

(13,058 posts)Of course it does. What I said was it is illegal which is a true statement. I don't understand your problem with that.

(2,403 posts)I think given the choice between living here in the states versus under the Taliban it is no contest.
We have a lot of problems here that need to be fixed. But it isnt even close to the same ballpark.

(83,750 posts)I see the sudden concern about women and their rights as human beings. Perhaps, just perhaps we should be looking at what is happening here and correct our own issues first.
Sadly we are not all that different.
CrackityJones75
(2,403 posts)I absolutely agree that we should be dealing with the issues HERE. And that they are plenty, they are massive, systemic, and debilitating to us as a society.
The sexism that occurs here, the abuse that is allowed to occur, the engineering of sex oriented roles is disgusting, abhorrent, and non-sensical.

(113,279 posts)Less economic advantages. Patriarchy. And husbands/partners/lovers most certainly DO beat the women in their lives. Why the FUCKING HELL do all THE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CENTERS exist???? Because men beat women, and rarely face consequences.
All one has to do is pay attention, as many of us have been doing for DECADES, to what the American taliban says and does about women. Read the OP. Listen to what these woman-hating, patriarchal, christofascist assholes are saying and doing every single FUCKING DAY.
American women don't have it that bad??? YET.

(13,058 posts)Don't put words in my mouth. I said that they have it better than under the Taliban. Do you disagree with that?

(113,279 posts)You conveniently ignored what the others were trying to tell you. Nice try at deflection. Do not try to turn it around on us. We understood perfectly.
totodeinhere
(13,058 posts)would have a different take on the matter. And no, I did not say American women don't have it that bad. If I had meant that I would have said that. Maybe you should try wearing a burqa and see how you like it. Then maybe you'd appreciate your American freedoms more. And no, you do not understand squat.

(113,279 posts)hatred, loathing,, and fear of women. And yet, so many turn a blind eye, ignore, pretend they do not see. I have been saying for many years that I worry far more about our religious nut job woman haters than those elsewhere. They are here, growing more vocal and powerful by the day.
Would you consider posting your very powerful OP in Women's Rights And Issues? Thanks in advance.

(2,771 posts)Ive been thinking this for a few days. Then, today, I listened to author David Rothkopf on the podcast Mueller, She Wrote. He brought up a few related points Id not considered, points that also refute the Republican complaints about our withdrawal from Afghanistan. First, of course the situation of Afghan women is awful. The women of Afghanistan are not alone in this. Women in many parts of the word are in awful situations. We dont have a troop presence in every country in which the plight of women is awful. We dont have troops in Saudi Arabia, for example. Why should the plight of women in Afghanistan cause us to remain there when we dont elsewhere? Much more importantly, Rothkopf makes the point that troops are not the best way to help women who live in these backward nations. Diplomacy, transnational welfare groups and other softer, socially focused forms of outreach are likelier to find success. I wish more media would address these points. Meanwhile, my heart breaks for women in peril wherever they are.

(9,116 posts)This is some Lee Atwater shit here. They say they care about women's rights, but what they mean is they don't like Muslims.
We can all have a productive discussion about religion's role in perpetuating patriarchy, but anything the GOP has to say in this regard is patently dishonest.
And now, they don't want Afghans coming here - including women.
