COVID-19 patient dies waiting for hospital bed in Douglas County (Oregon)

https://www.nrtoday.com/news/health/coronavirus/covid-19-patient-dies-waiting-for-hospital-bed-in-douglas-county/article_78515493-2c1e-5b42-9bb2-e21ca8368da6.html

A Douglas County patient died yesterday at CHI Mercy Medical Center while waiting for a bed in the ICU to open up.

The hospital, through the Douglas County COVID-19 Recovery Team, shared the story on Thursday afternoon.

“This moment, we pause.

A COVID positive patient was in our Emergency Department, within our four walls, waiting for an open Intensive Care Unit bed to receive life-saving care.

It had been several hours because other COVID positive patients had filled those beds.

Even after expanding ICU care onto other floors, there weren't any beds available for this patient.

If not, I have no sympathy. It's reserved for vaccinated people and people with other actual emergencies.

Are not able to get the vaccine. Five in a million suffer anaphylaxis from the shot. Not a big number but they exist.

I do understand the general sentiment though. The unvaccinated to "own the libs" crowd and others of similar persuasion can drop dead in their tracks for all I care.

And the Gawd will save me crowd, if they were true believers, would treat their bodies like the temples they're supposed to be and get the jab.

I guess people didn’t register that a person died because there was no ICU bed. They read some BS on the web and convince them selves they know better than doctors. I feel sorry for their families, not them. There were even people talking about how cheap the veterinary medicine was. Hey dumbass, the vaccine is free. People all over the world wish they had access to the vaccine. America must be seen as the stupidest country in earth.

With a county population of about 110k.

Multnomah county (where Portland is located) had 225 cases with a population of about 812k.

So Douglas county is getting hit hard. Portland has a lot more hospitals too.

After awakening from my afternoon nap, for a couple hours I experienced episodic transient dizziness accompanied by blurred vision. Sure hoping I don't require the hospital tonight (or tomorrow for that matter). I fear there is no room at the inn for emergent treatment.

They went to St. Charles Hospital in Bend (central Oregon just east of the Cascades Mountains), and got very much the same story. Fifty beds, all occupied. They have some empty beds but not enough staff to tend to any patients. One doctor was talking about people showing up with emergency situations, and they had to turn them away. She initially said we send them home and hope they don't die, but the reporter said she later amended that to they send them home and tell them to come back if their symptoms worsen.

And yeah, every Covid patient at St. Charles was unvaccinated.

You know how officers from January 6th have been committing suicide? Have there been any suicides from medical workers from the toll of seeing and dealing with all these dying people? If not, do you think it will start happening?

We’re going to be seeing a lot more of these stories. I have a friend who’s an RT in Orlando who describes intubating a patient in the hallway because they were still moving a body out of the ICU.
