'Beyond bizarre': Norwegian CEO blasts DeSantis' 'vaccine passport' ban

“Our leadership has failed us. So, I’m not going to fail our customers. I’m not going to fail our crew,” CEO Frank Del Rio said.

Fresh off at least an initial win in a court battle with the state, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings President and CEO Frank Del Rio didn’t hold back as his company launched a 100-percent vaccinated cruise from PortMiami over the weekend.

Appearing on Yahoo Finance on Monday, Del Rio said American leadership has failed to stand up to “the realities of this pandemic.”

“Can you imagine that (if) 700,000 people in this country died of anything other than COVID, to the outrage that there would be, what government would do to stop that,” Del Rio said. “And this government, whether we’re talking about local, state or federal, and I’m not talking Republicans, I’m not talking Democrats, I’m talking government. Our leadership has failed us. So, I’m not going to fail our customers. I’m not going to fail our crew.”

Del Rio added that it’s “beyond bizarre” and “shameful” that his company has had to fight Gov. Ron DeSantis to keep people healthy.

He's taking a very risky chance that Covid won't still spread on a "vaccinated" cruise.

Not only was proof of vax and a negative test required to get aboard, but everyday everyone has to submit a test, and everyone has to wear a tracking bracelet so if anyone turns up with covid in daily tests they can contact trace.

I don't know if Norwegian is going that far but they might be.

All points of call also happen to be in country with very good vaccinations rates (over 70% fully vaxxed population).

Seems like, in totality, it's probably safer than regular life in the USA unless you don't leave the house or have any visitors.
