Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI got new neighbors upstairs.
And omg they are insanely noisy.
A hear a ball rolling around, sounds like a hard plastic ball, than there is the constant sound of another kind of ball bouncing around.
There is big hard thumps that sometimes shake the building and it is constantly going day in day out.
Never before have I had such noise come from anyone in any other apartment I have lived in before.
It goes on constantly from 7 am to 11 at night.
I can't hear tv,the constant thudding and banging is driving me crazy. It's been happening constantly for a week now.
I wanna strangle them I am so frustrated.
How do I get these people to have a bit of consideration for others in this building?
It's like they are oblivious or don't give a shit who they irritate with thier godamn noise. Never have I had neighbors this fucking bad.
I'm coping by having fantasies about having them losing their feet, and various kinds of demises, because it drives me nuts this continual racket.
They never stop.
They do this shit day in day out.
It's truly insane.

Because if they keep it up after I nicely tell them, and I already called the landlord she was blasie about it .
If nothing changes this situation I am going to have to do magick.
Because it's taking a big toll on my mental health.

(4,616 posts)Dont talk to them directly. If its a quality landlord, theyll talk to them. If the problem persists, the landlord has options. You dont want the upstairs crazies to know for sure that the complaint comes from you.

(5,931 posts)Been their done that, your best bet is to make friends with them, then it's just your buds upstairs doin' their thing instead of a nightmare invasion. That makes any noise far more tolerable.
Whatever you do don't get a feud going, that makes any noise ten times worse!
and lastly,
Headphones, headphones, headphones. They can really help.

(14,118 posts)next-door neighbors some years back and had the door shut in my face. Then I went to the
apartment management and was told that it's difficult for them to enforce noise levels. I told the
management that in the future I'd complain directly to the city since they do take noise seriously.
My new neighbors then are now my old neighbors now and I've never had another reason to complain
to them. I hope you get a similar positive outcome.

(10,661 posts)you're entitled to the peaceful enjoyment of your home. When I was a kid in our NYC apt, I was told by my family not to bounce balls or make a lot of noise to not bother our downstairs neighbor.
If it continues unabated, you may need a followup with the landlord. I have a mental illness and need quiet in my home.

(9,067 posts)door. I live in a building that has turned into mainly short-term rentals. When someone moves in they move the furniture around for the first week, then they start dropping bowling balls. The sex can be loud.
The managers didn't bother putting any kind of sound proofing in when the laid new wood floors so I hear a lot. It's bad.
And right now I have an out of town (making major dough) Covid nurse that keeps the worst hours. Bless her for her work but she is horrible to live under. Very loud. She has been dropping bowling balls above my head while I sleep so I naturally shouted out my window. HEY HEY. And the noise stopped.
I deal with most of the other noise because it's during the day. But if I get anyone louder than her, which I have, I've gone up and let them know there is no sound proofing and that it's very loud. I let them know I can hear them in the bathroom and they get pretty quiet after that.

(12,463 posts)A good enough sound system,a way to point the speakers up to the ceiling, and I knew it wouldn't freak my cat out, I would be blasting it for 15 minutes on and off all day. Bet that would motivate them to go *ahem*
Somewhere else to be noisy at.lol.

(34,136 posts)Experiments with parametric and directional speaker systems have been going on since the early 1960s. Ultrasonic sound has much smaller wavelengths than regular audible sound making it much more directional than a traditional loudspeaker system.
Most speakers are designed to throw sound as far and loud as possible. Parametric speakers are more like a laser beam with the sound focused at high intensity into a relatively small area. The result is that two people can be standing only a few feet apart from each other yet only one of them will hear the directional audio waves emanating from the parametric audio source.

Sloppy has a great writing style, even though it does include a good amount of profanity. I've started on his Gunfighter Dad series about his experiences with his sons. I probably won't get into his military stories since I have no experience to relate to that.

(6,679 posts)And letting them know the sound downstairs is too much does not help.
complain to the landlord sooner rather than later. They have interest in making sure the new tenants upstairs aren't tearing up the place.
I hope it is "settling in" noise.

(10,184 posts)I was living in a small town when going to college. The neighbor had a dog he kept chained up right by my bedroom window that barked all night. I talked to him a couple times and hed just say that what dogs do. Yes, but they also obey if you let them know to stop. Anyway I talked to the town marshal and he said there was no ordinance and he agreed we ought to have one and suggested I attend a town council meeting where it appeared to me many others agreed with me. But it turned out the mayor was the worst violator in town so it didnt get any traction.

(63,221 posts)I so relate to the woman in the apartment below. Sometimes I just want to know "What the F**K are they doing?".
Like in my case, it sounds like they are dropping billiard balls onto a hardwood floor all the time. Who does that? How clumsy are you? At least it's not constant, but when it happens, it's startling and very nerve-racking. I have a hard time calming down afterward.
This video is hilarious, BTW!

(50,269 posts)home on 50 acres and then purchased some kind of equipment I refer to as the "beep machine" which he runs on his property just about every weekend all day long. I have no idea what he's doing. Landscaping? Logging? Other than this character - the guy with the best house on the hill - it's a quiet, peaceful place to live. Oh - except when he decides to target shoot or bring out his ATV. My dream is a lottery win which will allow me to purchase 500 acres and put a house right in the middle of it. I guess all you can do is bitch to the landlord.

(16,829 posts)If they have cats, they may be running around to get used to the apartment.
I once had this sound and told my very friendly upstairs neighbor about the bowling ball sound - which was happening while he was at work. He said it had to be the cat. Once I knew what it was, it was less annoying.
I've had this problem before... once I even knocked on the upstairs neighbor's door at midnight (she had just come home) and asked her to take off her shoes. There were no rugs, so when she walked around in shoes it felt like she was walking on my head.

(25,816 posts)When I bought my 40 acres over 40 years ago, I had zero neighbors for over a mile.
Now I have some, but the zoning here is RU4--you must have a minimum of 4 acres for a residential unit.
But I can still hear cars or trucks on the road. I like peace, quiet and seclusion.
Best of luck in your situation. Once, on a month long job in a city, I stayed in a motel. One night the
gymnastics team that was competing nearby had the room above me. I think they practiced their
moves all night.

(12,463 posts)Away from 95. Blocking the noise is a strip of forest approximately half an acre.
Traffic is a constant here. Luckily it is far below the hill that leads to here.
Got used to the traffic over time. Took about 5 months . So I only notice it now is when a loud car, loud motorcycle,or backfires.
My neighbors are far worse than the traffic sounds.

(4,170 posts)I own a large area of land that is undeveloped, though I have stayed there from time to time. Way out in the country, with nearest neighbor about a mile via road. But boy howdee, when they start with the guns and/or fourwheelers!
Ironically, its frequently noisier out there than at my house in town, where my home sits on an acre corner lot. Great neighbors, nothing to hear but birds (and the occasional lawn mower).
I agree with you on the peace, quiet, and seclusion!

(12,463 posts)Then these people knocked on my door today. They apparently we're the parents of the children running around upstairs.
They are around 5 and one of them is autistic.
So they said they were getting a carpet and a thick pad. I told them I understood the situation and thanked them for getting a rug to put where the kids runaround all day.
I told them thanks for being so nice about it
And I understand why and knowing what the noise is and that you don't have alot of control over it makes me feel a bit more at ease with what's going on.
