Joe Biden ended the twenty-year war in Afghanistan. That’s a historical fact now. It wasn’t perfect, and it wasn’t pretty, but it had to be done, and by God he did it.

His first year in office, too!

When Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld invaded Afghanistan in October of 2001, Americans were led to believe it would be a quick, decisive battle similar to what we saw in Desert Storm, Iraq, in 1991.

Boom boom, bang bang, in and out, done.

Obviously we were lied to, because the Bush administration had no intention of leaving Afghanistan from the start. And they made damned certain that leaving the country would be somebody else’s problem.

Republicans excel at making messes that somebody else has to clean up.

The GOP whipped up popularity for the war by pandering to their base’s bigotry (gonna teach them ragheads a lesson!) while simultaneously accusing anybody who disagreed with them of being unpatriotic and belonging to the “Hate America First” crowd.

Seriously. That’s basically what happened.

snip//

You can’t spend twenty freaking years and well over a trillion dollars “nation building” only to watch it all evaporate in eleven days and blame it on the new guy.

Because the bottom line is this: Joe Biden didn’t screw up the twenty-year war of Afghanistan. That had already been done twenty times over, starting in October of 2001.

Joe Biden ended the Afghanistan war.

And for that, I am proud.

it’s still going on and it’s far from over.
I agree with what you said and I don’t understand why American nationalists didn’t leave before the pullout but they didn’t. We knew they were there and we should have planned for this. The WAY we tried leaving failed. The backup plan is…. I don’t think we have one and that’s our screw up. That’s our problem! We need to fix it

It is all Biden’s fault. I have begun to despise the Press this weekend.

A few finally said 95% of Americans want this. Then went right back to hysterics.

Has written a book. He spent years in Asghanistan. The Afghan government was corrupt to the core and we were propping them up. The Taliban was fighting the corruption. Karzi and Ghani were siphoning off money all over.

The Taliban were trying to help people and Afghanistan wanted them in!

that will have to change. And it is an ugly truth.

As I type this, The New Yorker Radio Hour is interviewing a Mideast expert who is saying the Afghanistan government was a sham government which evolved as an ongoing operation set up to steal our money. No president had the courage to face this or admit it to the American people. They all lied to us about it.

And furthermore, the Taliban just moved next door to Pakistan. How are you going to win any war where the enemy just conveniently moves next door?

The one area where the operation succeeded is to educate women and girls. If the Taliban tries this, it will be a conflict that's tough enough that they may have to set aside their values on this issue for a while.

Carter has a book and shows the Afghani Government was corrupt to the core while the Taliban was actually fighting for the people and want them to govern.

Rummy let OBL go so Cheney could have his war in Iraq, steal their oil, and make billions of
his KBR/Halliburton cost + no bid contracts.
