(WJAR) — The Fox Point Hurricane Barrier is expected to be used ahead of Hurricane Henri making landfall.

The barrier prevents storm surge from coming up Narragansett Bay and flooding downtown Providence.

The Army Corps of Engineers plans on doing utilizing the barrier sometime on Sunday.

The barrier was finished being built in 1966, after the ‘38 and ‘54 hurricanes. We haven’t had a major hurricane since.
