I have Zero legal knowledge of the details here, just found it an interesting convo concerning the pending fate of Mr & Mrs Matt Gaetz.

(14,750 posts)This all refers to a judge compelling her to testify. Judges can hold witnesses in contempt for not truthfully testifying (assuming no fifth amendment issues).
It doesn't do a thing about federal prosecutors lining up felonies against her, and then offering her a deal. As long as she voluntarily testifies, it's legit. Offering her a plea deal is not forcing her.
The feds can charge her to an eternity in prison if she had a role in the crimes. Marriage offers no protection there.

Sounds like there is no cut-&-dried legal safety net when it reaches Fed level crime.
