(1,305 posts)I was passing through Missoula MT on Monday and had to stop at a Walmart. I decided to check with the pharmacy to see if I could get my third dose despite having no underlying conditions. The pharmacist looked at the date of my first and second shots and said hell yeah. Turns out so many people are not getting their vaccinations at all in MT that doses are going to waste. Instead of letting that happen theyre taking all comers. Im guessing theyre not the only pharmacists playing it that way. YMMV but its worth giving it a try wherever you are.

(70,684 posts)In fact am hearing back for an appointment and am wondering. I'm 74, had the 2 Pfizers in February so the 8 months are October, have underlying conditions. My urologist said yesterday an elderly colleague had his first doses in January, took an antibody test say he has almost no antibodies left.
But here's Dr FAUCI warning booster too soon might not help.
I guess I'm going ahead.

.... In an interview with MSNBCs Andrea Mitchell this week, Dr. Anthony Fauci said people would be wise to give their immune systems a chance to mature before rushing to get a booster.
I think that might defeat the purpose, and thats the reason why we landed at eight months, Fauci said, adding that the U.S. government could only recommend an eight-month period and otherwise leave personal decisions in the hands of the general population.
Deepta Bhattacharya, professor of immunobiology at the University of Arizona, echoed Faucis comments, telling NBC News that getting a booster soon after a second shot raises the possibility that it wont work that well.
He explained that third doses will likely work much better after fully vaccinated people lose some of the antibodies in their systems. He was quick to add that people will need to balance that likelihood against the risk that your protection is reduced during the interval between shots. ....
