Leviticus 13:45-46

https://www.truthorfiction.com/leviticus-1345-46/

Claim

Leviticus 13:45-46 reads that anyone with a "defiling disease" must "cover the lower part of their face" and engage in social distancing.

Reporting

On August 21 2021, a Facebook account shared a Twitter screenshot which purportedly quoted Leviticus 13:45-46 in reference to ongoing debates regarding masks and social distancing:

The Bible doesn't mention anything about masks, so quit referencing God when saying you won't... Wait. What? The Bible DOES mention wearing masks when sick?! AND SOCIAL DISTANCING?!?! https://t.co/9hFv0VeTXk

A screenshot labeled “Leviticus 13:45-46, New International Version” was attached; the tweet itself read:

The Bible doesn’t mention anything about masks, so quit referencing God when saying you won’t…

Wait. What?

The Bible DOES mention wearing masks when sick?!

AND SOCIAL DISTANCING?!?!

And claim that that particular part of Leviticus has been superseded by Jesus Christ (the rest still in full force and effect, like the gay stuff), unless it's all-you-can-eat shrimp night at the seafood buffet.

I looked it up, and the passage refers to a "skin disease" that I believe refers to smallpox. So they will say it only refers to smallpox, and not any other diseases.

something else. And, yes, Jesus did say something about how he made the old law obsolete.

But, being specific about Bible references is always a problem-- the main thing here is that even in the OT god approved of masks for protection. Jesus more'n likely would have approved. That's not the kind of law he threw out.

They love the OT when it backs up their prejudices, and explain it away when it doesn't.

Jewish virtual library:

13:45 And the leper in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and his head bare, and he shall put a covering upon his upper lip, and shall cry, Unclean, unclean.

13:46 All the days wherein the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his habitation be.
