(17,536 posts)He is like black mold, you think you have it knocked down and it appears in another spot. I think that the odds are as great of him getting the Republican nomination for President as him going down a legal hole. I don't see the courts ever allowing Trump to be brought to justice, regardless of evidence. The system has been well and truly rigged.
I am losing confidence in our Democracy's ability to bounce back from the modern Fascist calling themselves Republicans. It will be them in conjunction with the conservative Supreme Court that drives the final nail in our coffin. If we don't figure out how to turn things around, really quickly, things that are too bad to contemplate will begin happening.

(73,537 posts)That's an odd choice of words. Just my opinion. But I suppose the choice of words might sound very different than intended on the internet.
Several of my sisters are members of the DU community, including Catwoman, whom you accused of rock throwing )odd!) and Malaise, the author of the OP. Neither even approximate "rock thrower" in even the slightest. Rather, both are intelligent, kind, and gentle ladies who believe that the rule of law should be both respected and enforced. That's so different from throwing rocks. They both speak the truth, not throw rocks -- I still find that one very odd, indeed.
We need Positive Vibrations these days.

(17,536 posts)We need to wake up and pay attention to our Democracy being pulled down around us, one stone at the time. More people need to be more angry about what is happening to us. If you want to see our trajectory, look at Texas and Florida. Look at what they are doing in all of the "Cowboy" states. While we hold on to a razor thin margin of power on the National level, but we are losing in the states. Even the liberal bastion of California is in a struggle that could end Democratic control. The second and third largest states in the union have gone full jack-boot! If California goes, it will be a Fascist trifecta.
Of course, if you had rather have happy fantasies, that is fine. If you want to believe that Trump is going to prison, that the Republicans are on their way out, that Fascism is shrinking in this country, that we are becoming "more Democratic" so be it. The coming midterm elections will decide the fate of the Nation and they are a hell of a long way from looking optimistic.
I will keep shouting the warnings as long as I am able. If you can't stand it, just look away.

(73,537 posts)OP/thread, I can say without question that there wasn't any falsehood put forth in an attempt to create Positive Vibrations. The OP/thread is about a news report that provided up-dated information on an important investigation. That was both accurate and good. Does it mean that the eventual outcome of the investigation bring about perfected legal and social justice? Of course not. Yet it is a step in the right direction, and definitely a necessary one.
Certainly emotions -- including but not limited to happiness, sadness, and anger -- influence the manner that each individual interprets information. Likewise, emotions impact our ability to accomplish things -- for sake of this sub-discussion, I'll limit those things to the social-political activity that is essential if we have any hope of restoring our democracy.
I'd note that "health psychology" studies that hospital patients that are somewhat grumpy tend to have the best outcomes, compared to those that always have a smile and do not complain. No question that we inhabit a sick society today, but I do not believe those studies apply here. Still, I like when Paul sang, "It's getting better all the time," and John added, "Can't get much worse." While I do think that our culture has lost something important in regard to singing -- watch a group of third-world women working together, and you'll hear songs -- at this time I think Malcolm's talk about Muhammad Ali had great meri, when he expanded to note that although Ali was a talented singer, he won the heavyweight title by swinging. Hence, "it's time to stop singing and starte swinging." Figuratively, of course.
By no coincidence, two of my favorite activities throughout my long life have been boxing and social-political work. I boxed a total of 329 fights in the 1960s - '70s. I learned that when boxing, it is important to not have any emotion. It might be a fun match, an unpleasant one, or anything in between. But zero emotion until the fight is over. More if possible, make the opponent angry before the fight, as there is nothing easier to exploit than your opponent's anger.
My approach to politics is the same as my approach to boxing. Be clear-headed. Be focused. Develop ways to exploit both the strengths and weaknesses of your opponent. And inflict as much damage as possible, so they hesitate to go against you in the future. But that's just me. Some of my best friends experience emotions when dealing with things social-political. I'd be a damned fool to think that there is only one way -- my way-- to do things. And so I try to avoid attempting to interfere when they are happy about something like last night's news report. Again, that's just me.

(35,662 posts)anybody can type out a negative, hopeless scenario. Sheesh, at least provide us with something interesting to read. Choose a point that's pertinent and move the discussion forward. All you are doing is Debbie Downing and that is not valuable. In fact it's downright boring and predictable.
But if you insist on telling everyone it's all hopeless, then at least provide some specifics. Give examples. Tell us what system failures lead you to believe the way you do.

(17,536 posts)and the country living happily ever after if they wish but that is just feel-good daydreaming. Ignoring the current danger that our country faces and spinning tales may make you happy, but it won't make you safe. I saw the mirror images of these kinds of stories on the conservative forum that I monitored for years.
I disagreed with the contention that Trump was on his way down for the simple reason that the same power system is in place that has protected him for years.
And I only think that our situation is hopeless if people don't wake up and take a hard look at where we are going.

(35,662 posts)If that's your objective, I suggest a more motivating way of writing your posts. The way your post is written does nothing but paint a picture of gloom and doom: black mold. TGG is going to get the nomination. The system is rigged. You end up with a statement that we have to turn things around real quick.
Everybody knows it around here: there are disruptors who paint the blackest possible picture. Why? Because if you can de-motivate your opponent by making him/her believe that the attempt is fruitless, you've just eliminated one more activist or voter.
I'm not calling you a disruptor but I am suggesting that you have an emotional issue with gloom and doom and you foist it off on posters here. A lot of people have this problem--that they see the glass half empty. It could be a genetic thing, but regardless, be aware of it because the last thing you want to do is discourage voters/posters/activists from pursuing our cause.
Go back and read your post 12. One lousy sentence is all you wrote to try to "alert" people. Whoop de do.
