DeSantis administration hasnt said why it hasnt requested the money, which has no strings attached for the state.TALLAHASSEE Child hunger groups and Floridas top elected Democrat urged Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday to tap into $820 million in federal aid money that would provide meals for more than 2 million children in low-income households.
Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried said it was unconscionable that DeSantis administration hasnt requested the money, which has no strings attached. All the state has to do it ask, Fried said.
Every day that this aid is delayed is another night where a child would go to bed hungry that could have been prevented, said Fried, a Democrat looking to challenge DeSantis re-election next year. The people of Florida cant afford the governor leaving money on the table.
Why the DeSantis administration has not applied for the money is unclear. Neither his office nor the Department of Children and Families, which would distribute the money, has responded to requests for comment this week.

(296 posts)2. DeSantis is probably taking his time. $820M is a lot of cash. Surely
some of it could go missing and not be noticed. The main snag is not getting caught red handed. Otherwise, what would be the hold up? If the government said you could have $100,000 tax free, no strings attached to upgrade you home and life, would you not jump at the chance? They are cooking up something fishy.

He is doing his level best to make them suffer, get sick and die.

and then you won't get a lick of work out of them.

Things like feeding hungry kids, or protecting our children from Covid in schools. It's all about appearing strong and cruel when he runs in 2024.
