Unless we remove that ridiculous requirement via Constitutional amendment. And unfortunately, that isn't likely to happen in the near or even not-so-near future.

But I can't see such an amendment passing through the process successfully for a long time, if ever.

(I say for a long time because it's possible that sometime in the future, the US will have so many naturalized citizens that the pressure to eliminate that requirement will be great enough for it to happen.)

Things are different now.

The republican party used to be for thinkers. Now it's for people who have degrees in ignorance.

1. "Judge."

2. "County commissioner."

She's the latter. Lest anybody think she's actually what most of the country thinks is is a "judge."

From Maryland, by way of OR,CA, and NY, I find this usage ... um ... odd.

Still, there ya go.

Always sounds a bit odd to me from out west also, but whatever. Even schoolkids in CA knew TXns were...exceptional because even their kids made sure everyone did.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo tells Lawrence O'Donnell that Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott is trying "to prevent us from responding to this crisis" by banning mask and vaccine mandates but she says, "I'm not giving up. My community is not giving up." Aired on 08/26/2021.

She is very impressive and the kind of level-headed leadership that Texas needs right now during Abbot's "reign of terror".

It just makes me so sick how these republican governors are playing games/politics with people's lives. They just don't care who dies, as long as they can score some political brownie points with the rabid base and Der Führer.

It's got to be so incredibly discouraging dealing with these idiots who are putting others - especially kids! - in danger and refuse to take such simple precautions, get vaccinated and wear a mask, that's it! Instead they'd rather take horse dewormer or malaria medicine which stands a really good chance of making them seriously ill - or worse. Seriously, what does it take??

And someone tonight mentioned something that I've thought right along - for kids to enter school, aren't vaccinations required in the first place? I've seen the list and it's quite extensive, but all of us were given certain vaccines growing up, against polio, etc. And when a friend of mine returned to college a few years back, she had to get the MMR vaccine before she could attend classes. It was no big deal. We've always required vaccines, starting as babies, but suddenly this one which can protect us against a deadly virus which is currently killing thousands is something people are fighting against??

politics. Nothing more than that. Too many dirtball politicians are perfectly fine playing roulette with the lives of actual human beings in order to score some cheap political points to help insure their re-election. I hope it massivley backfires on them.

Thanks, Rhiannon!

and that's at least 9/10 of it, often the whole thing. If she were conservative, I'd say only running against a runaway truck would be likely to defeat her. Even if she is a woman. Impressive.
