(25,747 posts)wants Republicans in charge. That's no fun. Hillary as president would've been paradise. They're trying to Hillary President Biden, but it's just not the same. Doesn't help when non-Republicans keep calling Democrats "elites" as an insult.

(1,351 posts)That's what seems to pass as journalism these days. That whole article is an opinion piece, with the author injecting his own biases.
Walter Cronkite must be rolling in his grave to see what passes as journalism now.

(271 posts)I just read this on CNN's web site. The article details the political dangers for Biden but also notes how a lot of this mess was passed on from past presidents and also mentions the mess that Reagan got into in Lebanon before winning re-election in a landslide!

(11,760 posts)Of course we failed in our "core mission" to expunge terrorism from Afghanistan. You can't defeat a tactic militarily. A lesson that the US should have learned a long long time ago. The problem has always been this stupid notion of American Exceptionalism, that we could export our style of democracy to any part of the world. That, and the fact that conservatives never wanted to export democracy, only capitalism. They want to expand markets, or corner the market on particular resources. The "nation building" crap was just to get the idealists on board and make perpetual war more palatable.
The only people questioning Biden's leadership are people who shouldn't be given the time of day. The only reason there is any "question" is because conflict sells and the media needs to sell to make the stock holders happy. This is a tragedy. The whole damn 20 year long war. The whole damn 40 year war, that the US has been a part of since we armed the Mujahedeen, since Bush Jr. met with the Taliban in Texas in the 90's to talk about natural gas and oil.
Biden is in personal turmoil, because he is a good man, and he takes responsibility for the loss of American and Afghan lives because he IS a leader. The only other turmoil is the stupid bullshit narrative that the media is spinning to get more dollars.

(3,238 posts)from the right, both sides everything, and holds the democratic side to a high standard and the trump Republican cult, to no standard. This country is in turmoil as the trump cult, the least informed and educated among us, yells and screams at city council and school board meetings, against medical and scientific recommendations that would help slow down this virus and prevent deadlier variants. This country is in turmoil, as a former political party, now a cult, lies and cheats and obstructs to remain in power. This country is in turmoil as trump cult members who rule red states, rig their election processes by placing partisans in charge of election functions. After all, its not who votes that counts, its who counts the votes. This country is in turmoil, as the trump traitors try to stop investigations into the January 6th, trump insurrection. This country is in turmoil, as hospitals fill up with those who chose to remain unvaccinated, stressing hospital infrastructure and stealing treatment from innocents. This country is in turmoil, as the leaders of the trump cult, orchestrate and foment violence. President Biden is not in turmoil, the country he is trying to govern is in turmoil.

(186 posts)... but I am surprised by the degree of viciousness of the anti-Biden headlines.
I feel pretty angry about it, and I am not even a diehard Biden fan.
I certainly don't like everything Biden's doing (immigration and Line 3 in Minnesota, for example), but for center and supposed left headlines to be implying that he's not fit to lead (and etc.) is just beyond the pale. Especially right now when we're in the thick of this complex situation in Afghanistan.
If anyone ever visits therighting.com to check out right-wing headlines - or follow their messaging in other ways - you'll know that they're falling all over themselves in glee in their rush to pillory Biden.
It make me sick how our mainstream media is joining with them. Gosh darn it, life is hard enough right now not to be sold down the river by these supposed journalists.
Yes, I get it. It's all about readership and money and etc. But this just crosses another big line as far as I'm concerned.
