Neil Young Says Covid-Era Concerts Are Irresponsible: "These Are Super-Spreader Events"

https://www.stereogum.com/2158930/neil-young-says-covid-era-concerts-are-irresponsible-these-are-super-spreader-events/news/
AUGUST 27, 2021 1:09 PM BY PETER HELMAN

"Neil Young announced last week that he was dropping out of Farm Aid 2021 due to COVID safety concerns. “I don’t want to let anybody down, but still can’t shake the feeling that it might not be safe for everyone. I worry about audiences coming together in these times,” Young wrote. “My soul tells me it would be wrong to risk having anyone die because they wanted to hear music and be with friends.” And now, in another blog post on his official Neil Young Archives website entitled “Concerts And Covid,” Young has blasted big concert promoters for continuing touring and spreading the virus.

“The big promoters, if they had the awareness, could stop these shows,” Young wrote."

Is one of the things about the pandemic that has affected me the most.

But Neil's absolutely correct, until this is under control it doesn't make any sense to risk lives or people's long-term health.

Two weeks of cheese and wine partying in NY watching people whacking a fur ball back and forth while grunting at each other, all the while helping keep this f*cking disease on the front burner so more can die needlessly. Thanks tennis fans.

But this is a major improvement from a day or so earlier when the US Open said, irresponsibly:

Fans won’t need to mask up or show proof of vaccination to attend.

“The goal is not to prevent all cases of COVID. The goal, really, is to be certain that we don’t have an outbreak of COVID that’s going to be unusual or that we would regret,” Dr. Brian Hainline, a U.S. Tennis Association first vice president and member of its medical advisory group, said on a conference call with reporters on Wednesday. “We’re still relying on the goodwill of people. The unvaccinated — although it’s not going to be enforced — they really should be wearing masks. I expect many vaccinated individuals are going to be wearing masks, as well.”

And others that give a fuck about their fans more than cash to stack up on their piles of other cash. Fuck Eric, and I have loved him for decades, own basically everything he has ever recorded.
Stopped going to live shows a long while back. Pay a hundred plus dollars and all you can see is cell phones of everybody in front of you. Neil is as down to earth as you can get. But please, Kid Rock, Nugent, and Lee Greenwood, pack those Halls, no masks and no vaxxers, hurry this thing along. Do as many as possible before 2022. Give horse paste with that $10 plastic red cup of room temp half piss and half draft beer. YeeHa!!!!!Freedumb!!!!!God bless MurKKKa.

I know it's not the same as in-person but some artists are successfully using online venues.

No live concerts should be allowed. it is too dangerous for even fully vaccinated people to attend live concerts.

hundreds of 1,000s, outside, vaxxed, masked. only 250 or so reported cases.

Trying to find a balance is the trick here.
