Edited to add: 14 of the 28 people on Grand Isle have taken refuge in the police station.I hope they've written their names, SS#, and addresses in permanent markers on their arms for easier identification. The videos look bad and Ida was still about 4 hours from landfall at the time of these videos.

(3,213 posts)Although, not sure why they would stay either. Grand Isle won't exist much longer.

(58,785 posts)anywhere else to assist. Just looked -- pop. listed at 740. I read that the evacuation order was voluntary and that a couple of days ago some residents were torn about whether to leave.

(18,427 posts)When the Loonies bombarded Terra with rocks in "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress," and spent days broadcasting warnings with the exact latitude and longitude the missiles would hit, people flocked to the sites with picnic baskets to see the show. Only thing he didn't predict was the shouts of "Fake News!" that accompanied them.

(1,459 posts)That certainly wont be a safe place either. Do we second guess them too?
Everyone does there own risk assessment, for there own personal reasons, we cant know what goes into their decision making, nor should we try too.
Just hope they make the right choice.

(38,689 posts)with a maximum elevation of 7 feet facing a forecasted Cat 4 hurricane with a storm surge of 15-20 feet. I was pointing out quite rightly that this may not be survivable.
You have a super day, now.

(10,777 posts)Unless they fail again, the people there will probably be ok.
Grand Isle is a sandbar that will be swept by a massive storm surge. It'll be a miracle if any of them survive.

(43,850 posts)Your mountain may well crumble someday. People you love may be in danger. They may be ill, unable to help themselves, homeless, compromised, even foolish, but there are people who love them and the fear is gut-wrenching. Your smug sniping about what they must be and how youd never and what they deserve is ugly beyond measure.
