The arrogance, hubris and hypocricy of religion will kill you

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves believes religion has a lot to do with the region’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a Thursday, Aug. 26, fundraiser at the Eads home of Shelby County Election Commission Chairman Brent Taylor, Reeves spoke to several dozen Republicans.

“I’m often asked by some of my friends on the other side of the aisle about COVID … and why does it seem like folks in Mississippi and maybe in the Mid-South are a little less scared, shall we say,” Reeves said.

...

“When you believe in eternal life — when you believe that living on this earth is but a blip on the screen, then you don’t have to be so scared of things,” he said, but added: “Now, God also tells us to take necessary precautions.

“And we all have opportunities and abilities to do that and we should all do that. I encourage everyone to do so. But the reality is that working together, we can get beyond this. We can move forward. We can move on.”

Notice the implication that his "friends on the other side" (Democrats?) are Godless, but true Mississippian Republicans are special.

Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you. Respect nature and remember that we share this planet with other species. I have absolutely no gods - no heaven, no hell - IMAGINE!

When I went out to feed the cats this morning - the less than two week old kitten recognized my voice and didn't even move - just to see its little eyes looking at me with no fear keeps me going.

..don't even know their own dogma.

Ignoring vaccines and masks and distancing is "testing god"...asking him/her/whatever to work miracles to show how powerful he/she/whatever is.

From Bible answers...
"..testing is when doubt leads us to demand something of God to prove Himself to us. Deuteronomy 6:16 “The devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. ‘If you are the Son of God,’ he said, ‘throw yourself down. For it is written: “He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” Jesus answered him, ‘It is also written: “Do not put the Lord your God to the test”’” (Matthew 4 –10). Essentially, the devil was telling Jesus to “prove” God’s Word was true by forcing God’s hand—if Jesus was in peril, God would have to save Him. Jesus refused to test God in such a way. We are to accept God’s Word by faith, without requiring a sign (see Luke 11:29)."

the possibility of death serenely actually have a notion of what a 1 or 2% mortality rate means for them. That 91% of people over 65 got themselves vaccinated makes it clear that most conservatives over 65 wanted better odds than God alone was offering.

Of course, arrogance, hubris and hypocrisy don't need religion. Political beliefs have a lot in common with religious beliefs, and my guess is that a whole lot more on the right are dying from factional hostility than religious piety.

To him, death is a great thing for those dead children, by COVID or school shootings.

Those children are with God.

Families can rejoice for them.

These believers, wherever they be, won't be meditative yogis blissfully watching their last breath.
No, they will be scared shit-less, gasping for breath, fearing God's eternity.

If living on this earth is but a blip on the screen, they need think more about eternity in hell for failing to be humane.
It is not the image and likeness of God to be selfish, stupid, petty, cruel, and wrong.

(repeating that which I have said before)

And yet so oblivious to it. If they believe in hell, they should be scared shitless.

I'm an atheist but enjoy the quirkiness of life. What happens next never fails to amaze me, both the sad and the joy.
