Biden has canceled almost $10B in student loan debt so far. Who got relief?

President Joe Biden has shown an appetite for helping out America's student loan borrowers.

The U.S. Department of Education just reported that it has approved $9.5 billion in student loan discharges since January — lightening the burdens of 563,000 borrowers who now have more ability to increase savings, invest money and deal with other debts.

If you haven't been paying attention, you might even qualify for some of that student loan relief. But what happened to the idea of wiping out debt for every borrower?

The Biden administration has been making announcements throughout the year as it has canceled student loan debt for select groups of borrowers.

for two years and my own guilt led me to enlist at the height (I didn't know) of Vietnam war and protests, doing the counter-intuitive thing. So then got four years of GI Bill (not my intention).

As years went on hearing of everybody's Student Loans, didn't relate. Then I figured it out (I'm slow) : I *sold 4 years of life* and got no Student Loans.

Something like Indentured Servitude? As I say, I didn't plan anything. One of my heroes was NY U.S. Rep. Charlie RANGEL, now demoted and forgotten, but he was a veteran and used to say a reality like, (paraphrasing) The reason there are a high number of Minorities in the military and casualties is not for gung ho "patriotism" but for economics, a way out of lack of paths for education and job skills and jobs.

Four years, sounds long and it was, but later seems *fast*. And insofar as that goes, now I'm *old* (74) - goes *very* fast.

I don't know why we just can't have the interest wiped out. Those of us who have paid off our principal already should be in the clear. As for the rest, their interest should be cancelled and they should only be responsible for the remainder of the amount they borrowed.
