But if I had to cancel one, it would be nyt.

---

I'm adding this:

I have the two subscriptions because I want to read the articles that come up on a news search and also that are posted here. It really doesn't amount to that much money and it's not worth the inconvenience of having to find the article from another source.

I like the newsletters from Washington Post. Twice a day they send me opinions and the top stories rated by readers.

However, NY Times has some features I'd miss if I didn't subscribe. They had (maybe still have) some writer who writes regular features under "Smart Living."

And of course, there's "Metropolitan Diary," but sometimes Elleng posts it here.

No news source is perfect. The key is to read (or watch) a variety of primary sources from various points of view. We as a group complain about people only watching Fox. Our minds need to be open to different views, too, not just what we read here in DU because as good as this site is, DU is not a primary news source

If a digital or paper sub is not available for you, check out your local library. Most carry a few newspapers and news magazines in print form with a greater array in digital form. All you need is a library card - paid for by taxes.

You are right about different views. The library tip is so appreciative. I hadn’t thought of that.

~ETA - I subscribe to the Washington Post (online) in case my answer is confusing.

I also subscribe to the St. Louis Post Dispatch (online & Sunday paper delivered)

Without it. Never read the Post. I guess I shouldn't vote.

It does sort of remind me of that hierarchy of newspapers thing that was going around awhile ago:
The NYTimes is read by the people who think they run the country.
The Wall Street Journal is read by the people who really run the country.
The Miami Herald is read by people who run some other country.
I don't remember what it said about the Post.

They talked me out of it and extended my introductory price. But now that we have a real president I’m not paying as much attention to the news. I should just pull the plug.

I've dropped the NYT at least once when the price went up, then picked it back up when the next offer came along.

I like supporting the two, as I refuse to pay my local paper another penny (short reason--lousy customer service, plus more ads than copy)
