Im a huge Costco shopper. Im in San Antonio, Texas and Costco is not requiring masks. Ive been there a couple of times over the last two weeks and fewer and fewer employees and customers are wearing masks. The warehouse I go to lost one employee early on to COVID.
I called corporate today to express my dissatisfaction. They are following state requirements and since Abbutt is my idiot governor, Costco has no intention of requiring masks.
I am disappointed. I hope more members express their dissatisfaction.

(46,040 posts)In my Costco in CA virtually everyone wears masks, and I've never heard of anyone complaining about it.
I, too, love Costco. I just discovered their Kirkland allergy pills. They work great, and a year's supply costs less than $15.

Our governor is a big proponent of own the libs at the expense of childrens health and lives, so the population shows their maga support by remaining unvaxed/unmasked.
Thankfully, Costco kept the boomer/senior shopping hour open on Tuesday and Thursday. Its not too bad during the 9-10am hour, after 10 its the typical animal house crowds.

(3,858 posts)Costco follows state and local mask orders, neither of which exist in this part of California.

(15,084 posts)They are requiring masks because the Governor is requiring them.
I'm glad you called corporate. It is a private business and they can make their own determination about that. Might get some push-back from Rightie customers though.

(15,220 posts)Children of all ages, including ones too young yet to be vaccinated. No masks. It was crowded, too, even though I went right before closing.
I just hate to see a relatively good company contribute to the spread because theyre worried about a few detractors.

(67,108 posts)flirting with death and a horrible end, or long term illness ... and not all, but some seem proud of it with a big smile on their face. I had one guy tell me once about flu, he said he never gets a shot ... has a strong body and is immune to "any" disease. I thought, hmmmm, OK.
Some guys seem to think it's a manly man thing, real men don't get sick, I guess. I've given up on them. Those not protecting themselves never will, and I feel so sorry for their families and friends they might contaminate.

(54,372 posts)EVERYONE wore masks. The employees, the shoppers, all of them. Lots of immigrants, otherwise, the mixed bag you'd expect from Northern Virginia. But right down the line--at least when we were there. It was in the morning. Maybe it's a different crowd there in the afternoon or on weekends. I have been to one of those places in 18 months.

(1,923 posts)No state mask mandate here. We don't even have one for schools, its up to the individual districts.

(11,460 posts)I am lucky my state has mask mandate both inside and outside right now. I am in Oregon and my county in the south is exploding with cases.
Gov is trying hard to handle it with idiots in my area that won't get vaccinated.

(49,988 posts)A local woman tells Action News she received a letter from the Costco in Kennewick, Washington that reads, "Due to your failure to not wear your mask properly, your Costco membership account is being reviewed to be cancelled. We do not want to cancel it, but if you are not willing to follow our mask policy, it will be revoked and your shopping privileges will be cancelled."
...
The full letter reads:
On August 23, 2021, Governor Jay Inslee instituted a mask mandate for all Businesses in the State of Washington. Costco Wholesale is in full support of the mandate. Until the mask mandate is lifted, all members and their guests need to adhere to this policy.
Due to your failure to not wear your mask properly, your Costco membership account is being reviewed to be cancelled. We do not want to cancel it, but if you are not willing to follow our mask policy, it will be revoked and your shopping privileges will be cancelled.
Costco is a private membership-only warehouse club and membership is governed by membership privileges and conditions. Our membership rules, which are available on our website, state that 'Membership may be terminated at Costco's discretion.

But That's NO Excuse for Costco.. keep 'em out if they don't wear masks.. are they seriously going with Abbot's Death Policy? COVID Over People?!

(9,444 posts)The last couple of times I've been to Costco, including today, all the employees were wearing masks. The majority of customers were also wearing masks. A few weeks ago the ones of us wearing masks were in the minority.

(32,638 posts)... but people wear them anyway. The store employees are masking of course, and about 50% of the customers come in the door with their masks on. I usually shop during the day and it's mostly older, retired folks, so that might be a reason.
I've been avoiding the big box stores and indoor dining restaurants as much as possible, however I believe it's pretty much the same all over Pittsburgh. If the Governor comes back in the fall with a mask requirement (again) I believe most Pittsburghers will go along with it. Can't say that for the outlying counties though.

What is Costco to do?
hamsterjill
(15,220 posts)Can tell a private business that they cannot mandate masks. There are other stores in town that require a mask to enter. Costco is taking the easy way out in my opinion. Not willing to ruffle feathers to do the right thing. Thats unlike Costco. Thus my disappointment.

(81,856 posts)Costco is just following the regulations and there is no reason for them to go beyond what is required, especially when others arent.
hamsterjill
(15,220 posts)Some stores in town are requiring masks. My disappointment stems from the fact that Ive always felt Costco was willing to go above and beyond for its customers. Part of why I pay that $120 every year.
I dont think they are doing that here.
