GOPs Elder concedes California recall, hints: Stay tuned
By MICHAEL R. BLOOD
September 15, 2021
LOS ANGELES (AP) A defiant Larry Elder conceded his fight to become Californias next governor but indicated his first campaign might not be his last. Stay tuned, the Republican talk radio host told supporters.
Shortly after Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom easily beat back a recall effort to remove him from office, Elder told a cheering crowd Tuesday that we may have lost the battle, but we are going to win the war.
Incomplete election results had Elder far ahead among the 46 candidates who had hoped to replace Newsom if the recall succeeded.
Newsom will face reelection next year, and there has been speculation Elder could be in the running again. Elder referred to himself as a former radio host, suggesting his career was headed in a new direction.
Last week, Elder conspicuously didnt answer directly when asked if he would consider a 2022 rematch against Newsom, who already has said he plans to seek a second term.

You don't say "let's be gracious in defeat" if your going to challenge the results.

a DECISIVE 2:1 defeat of a recall attempt? I should think a LOT would have to happen for Newsome to turn him out with those who supported him today. Never say never, but all he should have to do is continue on with no stupid mistakes (like the fancy dinner during COVID) one might think?

(42,564 posts)7. "We'll see what happens"
Well see what happens is Trumps go-to phrase for saying absolutely nothing while simultaneously ruling absolutely nothing out. On virtually every major issue which he has been asked to address over his first two-plus years in office, he has, at one time or another, pledged to see what happens.
Heres a brief summary courtesy of CNNs Marshall Cohen and David Gelles:
* On North Korean missile launch: Well see what happens (May 9, 2019)
* On tariffs with China: Well see what happens (May 3, 2019)
* On running against Joe Biden: Well see what happens (May 2, 2019)
* On repealing the Affordable Care Act: Well see what happens. (March 28, 2019)
* On firing Robert Mueller: Well see what happens (April 9, 2018)
* On sitting down for an interview with Mueller: Well see what happens (January 10, 2018)
* On pardoning former national security adviser Flynn: Well see what happens (December 15, 2017)
* On the possibility of firing Jeff Sessions as attorney general: Well see what happens (July 25, 2017)
* On the possibility of firing FBI Director James Comey: Well see what happens (April 11, 2017)
Get the idea? Trump is asked a question. Rather than answer it directly or even semi-directly, he simply offers this bit of non-answer. Its along the lines of it is what it is. Sound, signifying, when you get down to it, nothing.
