"SNIP.......

A new Quinnipiac poll finds an overwhelmingly majority of Americans say by 68% to 24% that the recent rise in Covid-19 deaths in the U.S. was preventable.

However, a slight majority of Americans — 51% to 48% — disapprove of President Biden’s plan to mandate vaccines for millions of Americans in the public and private sectors.

There is no logic in those two results.

How does one recognize the obvious in one breath and then blame the wrong person for it in the next.

Don't get me wrong, I WANT him to have this authority because I think it's 'the proper ends', and I trust him personally and professionally.

But I'm not sure I'd want, say, Trump, making such a call, and as such I'm not sure I totally agree with the idea that POTUS should have this sort of power (or indeed whether he really does, legally ... I think he may lose in Court over it).

It's not outlandish to me to argue that only Congress has the power to do this sort of thing honestly.

Now, if Biden wants to invoke his Presidential Emergency Powers, that might change the equation. But that's possibly a bit extreme.

was to keep America safe. I heard this over and over in the GWB administration and they tried to use it as justification for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Well, here we have another President who is trying to keep America safe. And it won't take expensive planes to drop bombs, we won't have to send thousands of troops thousands of miles to fight this enemy. A vaccine (or two) in the arm, some wearing of a mask in social situations, and that's it.

Naturally, these same Republicans are fighting this simple solution tooth and nail.

I get a little squirmy with the mandates myself.

But it seems like I saw the approval for the mandates were over 50% so it doesn't seem like that could be what they were unhappy about.

I just think independants are like flags. They swing which ever the way the wind blows. If they are happy they praise, if they are unhappy they blame. Regardless of whether there is any causal relationship between the leadership and the events.
