UAB Female student's assault of man claiming to be preacher captured on video

A fight broke out on the UAB campus Tuesday afternoon as a man and woman identifying themselves as preachers were attacked by a person believed to be a student.

A witness to the incident who captured it on video told AL.com the pair were carrying signs saying things to the effect that women “belong in the kitchen, they shouldn’t be in college....just really misogynistic stuff.”

The video shows a female, believed to be a student, striking the man who said he was a preacher and knocking him to the ground. It was then that UAB campus police intervened.

The university provided few details when asked to comment on the incident.

“There was a concerning, very unfortunate altercation on campus yesterday between demonstrators and what appeared to be a student. We cannot comment further at this time, as this is an ongoing investigation,” UAB spokesman Tyler Greer.

I'm pretty much anti violence but I can't help but give this girl a big thumbs up.

Speech is protected only from government interference. It's not protected from being rejected to any degree by any private citizen. The whole thing was just a stunt anyway, like all such sign-waving "protests" performed primarily for social media. The Ken on the ground has to work on his "I've fallen and I can't get up" shtick.

are allowed to go onto college campuses and harass tuition-paying young women, with little interference from university administration. It happened to me as a PhD student in Oklahoma and more recently, as a tenured faculty member at WVU. I got called all manner of misogynistic bullshit because I dared wear- well, whatever I felt like wearing- and have tattoos. Having someone singling me out and shouting at me, or waving a giant poster of an aborted foetus (also happened at Oklahoma) is unacceptable. The poster-waving woman got knocked on her ass because she stepped in front of my bike. Oh well.

What kind of mental gymnastics one must do to come up with the belief that anyone here has supported these bigots. But you deserve a gold medal.

is support?

It doesn't rise to the criminal definition of harassment either. They are merely stating an opinion, one that is rare and isn't going to be convincing to people on a college campus.

merely for disagreement is as hypocritical as any right winger could be.

They are just saying stuff, and stuff that is not very convincing at that. Why be so afraid of it?

I guess it had something to do with masks as one woman was wearing one and the other was not. (This was in a small retirement town in NW Washington) Ahhh - good times!

who would stand out on the Quad and scream at women as they passed by, calling them whores and other insults. Caused quite a scene, and gathered a big crowd every time.

He was a young, good-looking fellow and eventually, you probably guessed it, he got caught having sex with the women in his flock, impregnating one.

What happened to 'Brother' Jud. He and his group were always a spring event on campus. Everyone saw through his bullshit and rather than physically attacking him we tried to get them to break character by heckling them.

Assault and battery.

If we are going to condone violence against those whose speech we don't like we really have no ground to stand on when others act against speech they do not like.

I recall it wasn't long ago there were demands for harsh punishment for someone who ripped up a BLM sign. In that case it was only a crime against property, this is a crime against a person.

of them. Not having listeners, even to hear them in passing, defeats their self-righteous objectives. I'd rather the campus use social media to tell everyone to avoid their location if administration can't eject them.

I know, sometimes you can't avoid them, and you wonder why you should. But I think them seeing their own ineffectiveness will rid the campus of them sooner. "No one cares what you think."

No one deserves to be punched for speech.

Also, imagine going to college only to get expelled and arrested for hitting some bigot?

What an unbelievably dumb thing to do.
