Has Biden's approval rating "plummeted"? Nope
More media hand wringing

Amid breathless reports of a political free fall and reeling from the White Houses summer from hell, the Beltway press has leaned into the idea that Joe Bidens presidency is unraveling that his approval rating is in a state of collapse.
Except its not true. Instead, its the media falling in love with their favorite Dems In Disarray storyline. The same media that shrugged at Trumps chronically awful approval rating.
In a typical, overheated dispatch, a CNBC report recently announced, Biden's Approval Ratings Have Plummeted, and That Could Spell trouble for Democrats in Congress. First off, the idea that Bidens approval rating in September 2021, is going to impact the outcome of November 2022, midterms makes no sense. Secondly, Bidens approval rating has fallen a grand total of four points in the past month, according to the polling average tabulated at FiveThirtyEight. So much for the plummet.
Is Biden's approval rating down this summer? It is, to 46 percent. Is he in some sort of manic freefall as the press suggests, fueled by the troop pullout from Afghanistan and the Delta surge? He is not.

(15,325 posts)And who's being polled & how the poll is worded. Ya know, for 'reasons'
It seems rather, they create the poll to fit their Headline.

(2,868 posts)the so-called disastrous "plummet" in Biden's polling was WITHIN THE MARGIN OF ERROR of their own polls. That means you Chuck Todd.

(10,828 posts)it would be a service to the country to focus on what the man is trying to do: Save Lives. Be it by Covid vaccination rules or airlifting 120,000+ people out of Afghanistan. What about lifting America's kids out of poverty or attempting to stop our slide into environmental/Climate Change disaster?
No, let's look at the polls after the screaming headlines predict failure, loss, political ruin.
This is not journalism. But it is tabloid-worthy.
And please, let us remember the last prediction of doom: Newsom will likely lose the recall; Elder gaining in the polls.
Must we be ever-vigilant? Absolutely. The danger to our Republic is very, very real.
Strange how few 'journalists' are willing to report on that.

(3 posts)Anyone remember when Ronald Reagan's approval rating was down to around 42-43% c. 1982?
Anyone remember how that worked out for him in the `84 election?
Anyone remember when George H.W. Bush's approval rating shot up to around 89% in early 1991?
Anyone remember how that worked out for him in the `92 election?

(19,348 posts)Jimmy Carter was at 65% in early 1980 (rally around the flag due to the Iran Hostage Crisis).
Clinton was at 40% in 1995.

All I see is Biden is doing what needs to be done!...

(3,850 posts)since some of the sample sizes of the polls where he's below 50 are smaller than the ones like Morning Consult or YouGove which are in the tens of thousands. And the bigger the sample size, the higher his percentage. If you take out the known conservative-leaning and biased polls, like Emerson and Rassmussen, he's comfortably over 50%.

(3 posts)And of course the constant litany that Dems will lose the House in 2022. Because.........
Well, um, it's happened before!
Now please, don't get me wrong. It's happened plenty. Maybe usually. And it only takes 5 seats so yeah ... it IS entirely possible Dems will lose the House in 2022.
But it is NOT a foregone conclusion. And yet these pundits write as if they had an infallible crystal ball in front of them.
Also, these are all individual races, and, while again I won't downplay that a president has an impact on those races, it will come down to those individual races, who the candidates are, and how they perform.
