(12,132 posts)My Aunt and Uncle have 3 kids who each have families of their own and they recently (couple years ago) managed to get the whole gang together all dressed in white and beige for a family picture on the beach. It's a great picture of all of them. Gulf coast at sunset and the photographer did an awesome job.
I wish my side of the family had done something similar before everyone started dying. The closest thing I have is a pic of me and my brothers at our mother's funeral. Not nearly as much fun but it was nice to see my brothers after so long (we all live in different states).

Those are homemade outfits. If Mrs. Mittens was the seamstress, she's not very good at it. And where did she get the fabric, at an outlet sale? I sometimes buy fabric remnants to make household items out of them. That fabric is strictly for country kitchen curtains.

If we are going to be upset about the assholes who go after the first family then we shouldn't be labeling things like this as "disturbing".
Dressing alike isn't that unusual for things like Christmas card photos.

(4,578 posts)It is a cute picture in my opinion, and the comments are tasteless. So much to destroy Romney with when the time comes that resorting to crap about family pics is beneath DU. IMO

muriel_volestrangler
(101,316 posts)If it was some recipient of a Christmas card from the Romneys, who then put it on the web, then I'd agree it should be off limits (since I've been informed that many Americans regard dressing up their grandchildren identically as 'normal behaviour'); if the Romneys OKed the distribution of the photo on to the web, then they're using it as publicity, and some comment is acceptable.
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)the pic is in the public domain?
I disagree.
If it gets used in a campaign ad then I might see your point but I think your stance is to broad. Most anything is out there now and I wouldn't want things like this to be turned around on those we support. It just isn't right.
There were attacks on the First Lady for wearing something sleeveless to church while in Hawaii. I think those were wrong too. We really should try to not be hypocritical on things like this.
muriel_volestrangler
(101,316 posts)for a photo before. It might be said to be a little disturbing (someone went to all the bother of obtaining the clothing in all the required sizes, and I'd like to think at least half of the children objected to the idea, so it might have taken some time to persuade them all).

and yes, your best comment is right on:
I'd like to think at least half of the children objected to the idea
peace, kpete
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)Grandma called the mothers and got the sizes for the kids. Then she went into a store and bought all the stuff at once.
The "bother of obtaining the clothing" is little more than an errand of love for a multi-millionire's wife.
At least we can agree that your (and kpete's) objection is based entirely on your personal experience.
My family never did this either but I am able to accept someone else's traditions and not attack people simply for being different.
laundry_queen
(8,646 posts)So many kids clothing places online and they normally aren't sold out of sizes like in a store. There are plenty of message boards dedicated to children's clothing and sales/swaps, etc. You can get info on great sales too...If I was rich and could afford the shipping I'd order everything online I think...
I have 4 kids of the same sex myself and I always dressed them alike for Christmas pictures when they were small. I never had a sister and wanted one so we could dress alike (like my cousins) so when I had my girls I dressed them alike for special occasions until the oldest grew out of children's sizes. They never minded at all - because I DID ask them, lol, so hopefully mine aren't scarred. It was so cute, I thought. I hope no one thought we were all creepy, I never even thought of that, actually!

(18,402 posts)You know, to each his (or her) own on these family pictures. Personally, if I walked into a children's clothing store and purchased 9 identical blue-checked shirts in assorted sizes, and four orange-and-yellow polka-dot dresses, I'd be afraid the salesperson would think I was a little nuts.
But then, orange is not my thing. But I'm not going to criticize it. Grandma orchestrated the picture she wanted to look at in her den of her darling grandkids, and it's her prerogative. On the other hand, I bet those kids are going to get some good yuks about this picture when they are older.
But why orange?

(146,307 posts)Well, I suppose childish mockery is OK if you can't think well enough to go after substantial issues. Threads like this one are really saying, "I don't really know anything about the issues in this election, but here's a photo of a bunch of kids dressed alike. Don't vote for the grandfather in this picture."
I vote for real issues, rather than childish issues. I hate this kind of crap during election time. It's just lame.
