... More than 312,000 people have initiated the vaccination process -- or getting their first shot -- over the last week, CDC data shows. That's a 7% drop from last week and a 35% drop from the previous month.
An average of 742,703 doses are being administered each day and about 182 million people, or 54.9%, of the US population, are fully vaccinated, the data shows. That leaves 71 million people, or 25.1% of the eligible population, who are not vaccinated ...

(9,998 posts)When children under 12 get added into the mix, it will add 5-10% from current levels.
And that's probably the ceiling.

(33,163 posts)Can't be vaxxed? (probably pretty small)
Low information? (i'm guessing the largest group)
Don't care - Until they do?
Willfully ignorant? (not as large as people think)
Anti-vaxx?
Any deeper estimate?

(9,998 posts)I'd say there is 25% of the population that will NEVER, Under No Circumstances, get vaccinated.
Another 5-10% MIGHT be reachable eventually, but it will be extraordinarily slow, and we're talking a handful at a time.
Bottom line is I doubt we ever reach 70% of Americans fully vaccinated.
The largest subset of the 30-35% are anti-vax or don't care. They make up the 25% who will NEVER get vaccinated. Add in 5% who are low information and another 5% who are truly unable to get vaccinated, and you're at the 1/3rd of Americans who won't get shots.

Sounds like a reasonable breakdown to me.

(19,066 posts)You'd think those 76% would get their kids vaccinated and/or get the 2nd shot if they haven't already.
There are still people deciding to get their first shot and schools and employers are starting to mandate it. So will that 76% become 80%? Not sure, but I would bet when it's all said and done we get close to 80%. The remaining 20% will all get Covid, period.

(9,998 posts)I still believe that 6 months from now, the total % of population fully vaccinated, will be 65-70%. Dr. Fauci said 85% would be necessary. 70% is perhaps the bare, bare minimum, and leaves us open to outbreaks and surges.

(19,066 posts)The adults will dictate their kids get it. So we're at less than 1 in 4 who will not get the vaccine. Some of those can be forced to. I think we get to 75% of the total population easily.
