General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsLast night, Brian Williams asked his guests how much of a threat still exists?
He had Woodward and Costa, the authors of Peril, that question.
They never really answered but the question sort of stuck with me?
Just because Joe Biden was elected did not end the threat.
The "peril" continues.
We have not escaped anything yet.

(4,716 posts)We are sinking into a quagmire oozing from our own timidity, our own hesitations.
Time to remove all stops, overtly pursue nuclear options, lead by bold example.
The Republican/authoritarians fuck all-things-good agenda marches unwaveringly toward its dystopian goal, an ever expanding toxic smudge filling our horizon and pursued relentlessly.
We are betrayed by members of our own party, while many of us refuse to even chastise them. We all are like teachers unions I was a representative to: stymied by our own good nature, not wanting to hurt anyones feelings.
I, like the rest of us, havent a clue what our actions must encompass.
But I do believe we must muster the courage to either Act Big or go

(12,278 posts)republicans are fanning it. Read the other day about the "concern" Senator Collins endorsing the wacko former governor of Maine.
Violence from white supremacist are rising across the country. Cries for another "Civil War" more frequent, and yet no push back from the fucked up party.

The Democrats need to protect and strengthen voting rights and drive that stake through the GOP's heart. NOW. 2022 is fast approaching and the blood-suckers are winning.

(43,182 posts)The raw emotions of so many will not remain static over time. Some may get worse, more may return to their senses. Indictments of insurrectionists and punishments, however light, will awaken some of them.
We don't want to be harsh and create martyrs, more anger, and resentment. We want accountability and healing.
We don't want to risk TFG being a martyr or acquitted for 2024. Indictment in the right time frame is good enough and as low risk as can be made of him.
The peril is if the movement grows. I'd say there is Peak Stupidity, but American stupid seems infinite at times.

(1,910 posts)Peril passed? Its just getting warmed up. Independent voters have gone from 61% for Biden down to 39%. This gives Trump a higher approval rating than Biden as of the latest Harvard-Harris poll.
Let the absolutely terrifying thought sink in. Of course that will likely change if Joe gets some wins.....but we are living in a country where a President that tried a coup and bungled a pandemic killing millions, is not only not prosecuted, but is right there in the running for 2024.
Pure, utter insanity.
