Search at Grand Canyon turns up remains of another person
https://www.kktv.com/2021/09/16/search-grand-canyon-turns-up-remains-another-person/
Crews searching for a missing man at Grand Canyon National Park made an unexpected discovery this summer.
They found the remains of another person who authorities believe was last seen at the park in 2015.
The medical examiners office is working to confirm the identity.
Park officials tentatively have identified the person as 56-year-old Scott Walsh.
Park rangers recently linked prescriptions found in a day pack belonging to Walsh with identification in a jacket found with his remains.

One of the major networks had some fine reporting on how the tragic Petito case has brought about discussions about the lack of attention given to missing non-white women, and men. That's a really good thing for the media to recognize. I might have the statistics wrong, as I didn't write them down and it was quite late ..... but I think they reported that there were over 48,000 cases of missing people at the end of 2020, and that 45% of these were non-white human beings.

(25,367 posts)Crews had been looking for Gabor Berczi-Tomscanyi, a Hungarian national who lived in Hong Kong. He was reported missing to police in Las Vegas in late July while traveling in the U.S. Southwest. The car he was driving was located in a Grand Canyon parking lot in mid-August and his body was found a few days later - about 430 feet below the canyon's rim at Yavapai Point.
Authorities determined Berczi-Tomscanyi died from a traumatic fall but are still investigating what led up to it.
The other body was spotted during an aerial search for Berczi-Tomscanyi. It was found about 600 feet below the Pipe Creek overlook and about 3 miles from where Walsh's day pack was found in 2015, Baird said

Wording is confusing though and I don't know why they announced it now...But it sounds like this guy was found while they were searching for another guy and the other guy was found in mid-August.

(1,969 posts)The media undoubtedly is going out of their way to report every missing person found 'cause that is the cause de jour. (See aloso 2001's simmer of the shark)
Perhaps we can have a daily roundup of the all these reports
call it Remains of the Day.

With A Spotlight On Gabby Petito, The Parents Of 2 Missing Black Men Call For Action
September 22, 2021 12:31 PM ET
There has been national focus over the last few days on the unfolding story of Gabby Petito, the 22-year-old white woman whose death was ruled a homicide on Tuesday, nearly a month after she was last seen on a cross-country road trip with her now-missing boyfriend.
Media coverage of the case is intense and, as some people have pointed out, disproportionate to the kind of attention typically given to missing Indigenous women and people of color.

Media Fascination With The Petito Mystery Looks Like Racism To Some Native Americans
The families of two Black men who have gone missing in recent weeks and months Jelani Day and Daniel Robinson are drawing attention to this disparity and pleading for the public's help in finding answers. Here are their stories.

Arizona geologist Daniel Robinson went missing in the desert in June

On July 31, police said, a human skull was located in an area south of where the Jeep had been recovered. Officials later determined the remains did not belong to Robinson and said in their Sept. 16 update that no additional human remains only animal bones have been found since.
