I ended my lecture today in American Food with one of the most devastating images of the entire class: an approximation (from historical records) of the rations Thomas Jefferson allotted to each enslaved adult @TJMonticello
Per week.

(6,979 posts)That was a week's ration if what I read was correct.
Founding Fathers my ASS. Most were racist assholes. 2,000 calories per meal and those slaves did hard and extremely manual work from sun up to sundown. Should have been 11,000 per DAY but starving a slave wasn't so bad to him. Bet old Jefferson the rapist/pedophile ate roast beef and other delicious meals prepared by starving kitchen-working slaves. Yep, the wonderful 'Christian' lived high on the hog
Like I said, Christian Founding Fathers my ASS.

No such thing as a good slave owner. Forefathers included.

(1,324 posts)Nobody - especially a servant/slave doing heavy physical labor relentlessly for hours - could survive a day let alone a week over time on a small serving of cornmeal, some fish tails, and whatever the heck that is on the right. They would starve to death, which would be a liability to their owners. What am I missing?
