I just found myself needing it. I found myself on the floor. I am so happy that I had it to use to help me up.
I was using Algebra, geometry, Newton's Law of gravity, and remembering my biology about how certain joints can move in certain ways when we need them to, even if we don't use them like that most of the time.
I would like to thank all those teachers for the valuable information.
And yes, I'm fine now thanks to STEM education.

(16,646 posts)Even if their knowledge and capability is limited, or flawed, people use STEM every day of their lives. It's just that when they get it "wrong" it leads to trouble. They should strive for better understanding, instead of refusing they are using it in the first place.

(14,120 posts)My partner in Mischief just came by and saw the little bit of a mess I made getting up.
I said I was fine, had my phone in my walker seat if I was in deep trouble. If things were looking real bad I could call 911.
Then he went on to say if it wasn't bad enough for 911, but bad enough for such a mess ( I didn't think it was that bad myself) why didn't I call him?
Truth is it was out of pride. As long as I have my educated mind and grit, I am not going to stop helping myself.

(8,914 posts)on the premise that they be used for STEM classwork and not
for the student to take home so that their parents can calculate their budget.
I'm confident that they are used for a STEM education.
Trying to pay it forward.
Good to know you used your STEM superpowers to do good.

(186 posts)I think it's disgraceful that people cant even remember the pythagorean theorem or solve for x.
On the other hand I think there is a right wing ploy to over emphasize STEM education , and the purposes
are multiple:
1. Flood the STEM job market and depress those wages
2. Keep the "innovation" gravy train running without
regard to the wise or equitable use of all thats already out there
3. crowd out other subjects that can be just as useful as STEM in society
and the economy, but dont cater to the right's other agendas, or that get people
thinking in deep critical ways that dont yield good results for the right wing oligarchs.
as time goes on, expect less emphasis on the "S" (hey they already don't like biology) , as well as the humanities.
We need a balance. The "gender studies" major should take algebra at some point,
the engineering major should dig into some literature and philosophy and paint a landscape
at some point.
Hey has anyone ever noticed how engineers are more likely than other "smart" people
to be right wing? Serious question, wassupwitdat?
