Seriously, will someone think about the children? Will we ever pass safe storage laws? Will we ever require that stolen/lost guns be reported? Will we ever hold the fucking LAW ABIDING GUN OWNERS accountable for for being IRRESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERS?

…parents of shooters responsible for their child shooter, if said child used a gun their parents had in their home.

Safe storage laws would need a spelled out exception that a person could not be arrested for defending themselves in their home with a gun based solely on the idea that “how could you have defended yourself with a gun, from a criminal in your home, if you were obeying safe storage laws”? Without that, self defense with a gun in the home is rendered illegal by a default catch-22:

You can defend yourself with a gun in your home.

A gun in your home, not in a safe, is a criminal violation.

You can’t defend yourself in time, if your gun is locked up.

Therefore, you must go to jail for shooting an intruder.

…that not having that kind of language in the law would allow shady prosecutors a way to get revenge on a gun owner for defending their homes.

If it isn’t spelled out, they could say “so how did you get your gun in time, if it wasn’t locked up. Seems you killed someone illegally, as that gun should have been locked up.”

That was why I mentioned it as something to include in the bill. Other than that, it would be the same result: your kid gets your gun, you pay a legal price.” We agree there.

your concern is "shady prosecutors" wanting to "get revenge on a gun owner for defending their homes"?

there's likely, and there's theoretically possible. your scenario is the latter.

meantime, kids are taking their parent's unsecured firearms and shooting classmates. that isn't just likely, it's cold facts.

Joe Biden has said assault weapons only belong on the battlefield. I agree with him.

We need to ban them from everyone not on a battlefield, which means all people in all walks of life and professions on American soil, as we are not living on a battlefield. No exceptions, as as Joe has said, these only belong on a battlefield. Making an exception would be saying they don’t only belong on a battlefield; which we don’t want to do that to Joe.

So let’s get it out there, a bill that bans everyone living and working on American soil from owning or using a semi-automatic weapon for any reason, whether personal or job related.

Can’t see how anyone would be against that unless they either love their guns or think part of the duties of Law Enforcement is mass murder battlefield guns.

"Will we ever hold the fucking LAW ABIDING GUN OWNERS accountable for for being IRRESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERS?"

Your commentary here is why that can't happen. Gunners always find some reason to be unreasonable, to pick at any attempt at change until the attempt to ameliorate our current gun filled environment fails from the shear weight of idiocy.

You do know why the police have the weaponry they do, right? Because law abiding gun owners who stop being law abiding have them. IT WAS THE GUNNERS WHO STARTED THE ARMS RACE NOT LAW ENFORCEMMENT. So I propose the gunners reverse the process and disarm until the police no longer feel the need to carry semi auto battle rifles.

YOU started it, YOU disarm first.

I'm done with this subthread. Now have the last gun'splain and declare victory.
