Probably equal to the passion that many Democrats hate Donald Trump.
It's a sign of the times, I suppose?
The nation is divided and politics seems to generate more hatred than is normal.
If Joe Biden cannot unite this country, I don't know that anyone can. He has always had the reputation as one of the most "bi-partisan" Senators in Washington. Still, they hate him.
Joe will probably think long about whether or not he will run for re-election? Is it worth it? In the end, I think Joe will do what he thinks is best for the country.
I believe he will win if he runs again. But what will he win?

(4,448 posts)We will hate him even more than Trump.
And whoever follows him (not doubt a Dem) will be hated even worse by the Republicans.
And whoever thought there would be a man hated more than George Bush?
The cycle of hate never stops. It's in everyone's DNA

(11,755 posts)I did not hate him though.
He was a bad President. His policies, for the most part, were bad for the American People. He did however get Medicare Part D up and running. Even though it was basically a give away to pharmaceutical companies, it did help a lot of Seniors with the cost of prescription drugs.
Cheney, I thought was an evil man with bad intentions. I try not to hate, but I can't say that my thoughts did not stray towards hatred of Cheney.
I did not like McCain or Romney, but I do not hate them and do not think I would have hated them if they had won the Presidency.
Trump is unique in the sense that he did not even really espouse any of the supposed policies of the Republican Party. He represented a base, repulsive cruelty and corruption, that I think is endemic within the conservative movement. A contempt for all but the wealthiest White men, but a willingness to exploit racism and populism to create a hierarchy that would benefit those wealthy White men. Right now, it appears that the only way forward for Conservatism/Republicanism is in the model of Trump and fascism, otherwise they are going to have to renounce everything they have done since Nixon and start over.

(11,755 posts)No one who actually knows about, or knows Joe Biden, would hate the man. Nor President Obama, nor Hillary Clinton.
Trump, on the other hand, has a documented history of being a real scumbag. George Bush Jr., though he has his flaws and was not a good President at all, is probably at least a decent human being. Spoiled like a frat boy, but not a sociopath.
They hate the image of Biden that is being presented in their highly selective and insular bubble of media. They have been conditioned to discount any information about Biden that comes from what most of the rest of us would consider, at least somewhat neutral sources. I have seen at least 3 threads today on DU about how the "media" is painting Joe Biden as a failure. THAT SAME MEDIA, according to these "Trump loving, Biden hating" people; ONLY PAINT GLOWING PICTURES OF BIDEN.
How is it that groups of people can have such a very different perspective?
Like I said, Trump supporters have been listening to the same right wing media that has been poisoning the discourse since the 1990's. Starting with Limbaugh and right wing radio, but getting boosted into the mainstream by Fox and its copycats, and a slew of right wing websites, You Tube, and social media sites like Facebook. Anyone born in the last 20 -30 years can have gone their entire life without ever listening to CNN, Headline News, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, C-SPAN, NPR, or any other relatively mainstream outlet. These people are likely submerged in outlets who paint Biden as a practicing Communist, Satan worshipper.
If you could engage them in a relative vacuum and present them with policies, just actual policies and their proposed effects, they would probably like a number of Democratic proposals, but say the word Biden, Democratic, or liberal and they would immediately start talking about "socialism" Nazi, etc...
They are on affective overload. They are so emotionally charged that they cannot even formulate rational thoughts about their world. Everything is colored by the media they consume.
Something has to be done about that, or we will never get this situation back under some kind of functional control.

(11,755 posts)Remember that it was in the 20th century that the German People were lead to war with basically the rest of the world, over an ideology of White Supremacy. That same White Supremacy exists in our culture and was in fact, part of the basis of the laws and practices which Hitler used to establish the Nazis and take Germany to near total destruction. That was less than 100 years ago.
The Germans were considered to be a country on the rise and sophistication under the early regime. It appears that learning is mutual and right wingers (which the Nazis were in Germany despite the right's insistence on the "Socialism" aspect) have learned from Hitler's and Goebbels' playbook that encapsulating a population in a bubble of lies and mythology is effective for getting your agenda through.

(82,849 posts)The former guy has lost in so many ways all through his life. Which means he's just like you and me, who have also lost in so many ways all through our lives. Some of those losses you just shake off and keep moving. Other losses can debilitate a person for a long, long time. Some losses are so shattering, a person can't and doesn't go on.
But the former guy has styled himself as the perpetual and eternal winner. Biden beat his ass worse than Hillary Clinton beat it, and this time the loss stuck. Try as he might, the former guy hasn't been able to turn his ass-whoopin' into victory, and every day that goes by when the news is about what President Biden is doing is another day that reinforces the former guy's loss.
And the former guy's lickspittles hate that.
