Louisiana Hospital Chain Hikes Insurance Premiums For Employees With Unvaccinated Spouses
The unvaccinated need to pay higher amounts for insurance
Ochsner Health, Louisianas largest healthcare provider, will raise health insurance premiums for employees whose spouses or domestic partners covered under its benefits plan are not vaccinated against Covid-19, a decision CEO Warner Thomas said was intended to keep premiums low for employees.
The spousal COVID vaccine fee, which will be up to $200, will be deducted from employees paychecks starting next year, according to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate, which first reported on the decision.
The surcharge will not apply to other dependents such as children who are covered by the employees health insurance and are eligible for vaccination, according to the letter.
The decision is part of the self-insured organizations efforts to keep health premiums low for employees after spending more than $9 million on Covid care for those covered on the companys health plans last year, Thomas said in a statement, according to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate.
