Alaska Airlines to require Covid-19 vaccines for all employees

Alaska Air Group Inc. (NYSE: ALK) expanded its vaccine mandate to its entire workforce on Friday, citing the executive order released by the White House for federal contractors and large employers.

Those executive orders by President Joe Biden came just one week after the SeaTac-based carrier announced it would require the vaccine for all new hires and offered bonuses for any employee that received the jab.

Those came alongside stricter testing requirements for unvaccinated employees, and the sunsetting of paid leave policies in the event they had to quarantine due to Covid-19 exposure.

The company “does significant work for the federal government,” Alaska said in a statement Oct. 1. It added that the new rule would apply to all of its employees across Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air and McGee Air Services, as well as some contractors and vendors. Some exceptions will be made for medical conditions or religious beliefs.
