Reaching the point where a black protagonist is enough to have a book called "critical race theory"

A Texas school district has removed two books by Jerry Craft from its libraries and postponed his virtual appearance before students after parents complained his graphic novels teach critical race theory, possibly in violation of a new state law.

Bonnie Anderson, one of the parents who objected to the books, told KPRC, "It is inappropriate instructional material.

"The books don't come out and say, 'We want white children to feel like oppressors,' but that is absolutely what they will do," Anderson said.

"I almost never saw kids like me in any of the books assigned to me in school. Books aimed at kids like me seemed to deal only with history or misery," Craft said, adding that he also tries to include messages of "strong values, loving families, very supportive friends, and plenty of humor."

They are taking white privilege to the point where anything non-white is an offense. Instead of getting better, racism seems to be getting worse in this country. These parents don’t want their white children to learn anything about the treatment of black people and other minorities because that treatment makes white people look bad—because many of their actions were not just bad, they were horrific. Not understanding our history or the lived experiences of many minorities in the US even today is doing an enormous disservice to children who will also grow up to be racist because they don’t know anything else and they assume that black people have been treated exactly as they have.

What these parents are also saying is that children of all races must learn about and from white writers, but minority children cannot learn about and from role models of their own race. We have a lot to overcome.
