snip--The young student resisted by trying to hold onto her hijab, but the teacher pulled the hijab off, exposing her hair to the class, wrote Muhammad.
The teacher then told the student that her hair was beautiful and she did not have to wear hijab to school anymore, Muhammad wrote.
Imagine being a child and stripped of your clothing in front of your classmates? Muhammad wrote. Imagine the humiliation and trauma this experience has caused her. This is abuse. Schools should be a haven for all of our kids to feel safe, welcome and protected no matter their faith.

But the hoodie was over the kid's eyes. Teacher asked the kid to take off the hoodie. When teacher saw there was no hijab under the hoodie, she left the kid alone.
Kid goes home and tells mother and the story "explodes."
Mother posts a video with the kid explaining what happened. Mom is in background coaching the kid. Kid is chuckling over the telling of the "tramatic" event.
Mother retracts the video.
Mother's friends start a GoFundMe campaign which raised $60.00 and was then closed down.
Looks like the entire story is going in one direction.... straight up the mother's ass.

(12,375 posts)This is a second grade class. The woman has been teaching in that class for over 20 years without a complaint and local community message board is supportive of the teacher.
The FB video has kid explaining what happened. In the middle, she asks her mother "Say it like this?" Mom chuckles. Response to the video has a friend, "You hit the jackpot.: Mom laughs.
We can be confident that the video on the phone (or wherever) will be subpoenaed by the police or by the teacher's lawyer.

They may have different belief than mid-eastern muslims.
Also a racist foundation of their beliefs. (Read "The Autobiography of Malcolm X" to learn about the racism of this group.

(5,969 posts)Like many, my first reaction was wtf, why would a teacher do this.
But if this is indeed fabricated then it's just fucked up and I hope the teacher sues. Thankfully, the school in this case didn't fire her on the spot and gave her a chance to clear things up. The other pupils in the class could probably help to get to the truth.

(82,383 posts)We don't agree with people not being able to follow their religion and value cultural diversity.
But as progressives it should bother us that this is a form of female oppression to have to wear something to cover up your hair if you are a woman. Feminism and cultural diversity collide.
