Longtime anti-LGBTQ conservative and former Texas GOP chair Allen West declared today that he has natural immunity and double the antibodies in his battle against COVID-19. Except his natural immunity didnt come naturally, but due to monoclonal antibody infusion therapy ...
West issued the statement in a series of tweets from a hospital bed in Plano, Texas, where he landed after trying to treat his illness with ivermectin (an anti-parasitic drug for humans and animals) and hydroxychloroquine (arthritis medication that also treats malaria.) Meanwhile, his wife, Angela, who has been vaccinated, went home after also being treated, while West remains hospitalized with COVID-related pneumonia and low blood oxygen levels ...

Allen West .. unvaccinated .. railed against "dangerous" COVID-19 vaccines while hospitalized with the coronavirus on Sunday.
West, a Republican, announced Saturday that he was taking hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin, which has not been approved to treat the virus. At the time, he said he was experiencing a low-grade fever and light body aches.
By Sunday, he was hospitalized with possible COVID-related pneumonia ...

A vaccine helps stimulate and prepare your immune system to respond if or when you are exposed to the virus, Petty says. Your immune system is ready to create all these antibodies before they are needed.
Monoclonal antibodies boost the immune system after you are already sick, speeding up your immune response to prevent COVID-19 from getting worse. But a vaccine does this much easier and much better, Petty says.
You can think of monoclonal antibodies as guided missiles that target and neutralize the virus, Fales says. But they don't stick around. While monoclonal antibodies are effective for about a month, they are long gone 6 months later, when a vaccine still offers significant protection.

My chest X-rays do show COVID pneumonia, not serious. I am probably going to be admitted to the hospital, West announced Saturday.

(25,854 posts)Or more to the point, why did he even bother to go to a hospital. I really, really wish hospitals and doctors would refuse to treat the unvaccinated.

As Melanie Cain said when her father was first admitted to the hospital, ...the reports were similar to what you hear for other patients. You know, oxygen issues with the lungs, just things like that. Those things sounded, relatively speaking for COVID, normal.
