. . . . . Who would you prefer, Lester Holt or Brian Williams?
My personal opinion is Williams was demoted based on not much because he leans left. Holt is a long time roadie and right leaner who became the easy choice to get the news subtly, slightly shaved right.
He seems to relish bad news for Democrats. Williams, on his 11th Hour show on MSNBC seems to favor Democrats and putting down GQPeers.
Again, just my personal opinion.

(2,767 posts)After all, MSNBC leans left and he's surrounded. I think he usually seems awkward doing anything opinionated, although it seems to be coming easier nowadays.

(47,711 posts)I've been watching him almost every night and he has become my favorite news host. His opinions do definitely seem to be genuine and his delivery is practically flawless. I like him better as an MSNBC news host than as the NBC news anchor, so in a sense, I'm rather glad he isn't on the Nightly News anymore.

(2,767 posts)I'm usually watching something else and miss most of his show so I haven't watched him much. I'm glad to hear he's worth watching.

(47,711 posts)that I sometimes have to rewind to catch what he said. He can do it without cracking a smile.

(13,776 posts)He doesnt laugh at his own jokes. He says them like theyre just part of the news... I love it!
You described it perfectly. I find myself anticipating them. I noticed with his guests, there is a slight delay before they smile or laugh, as it takes a second to realize Brian effortlessly slipped a witticism into his dialogue. They seem to really enjoy being on his show. He always manages to say something refreshingly unexpected.

(27,848 posts)Based on the stories he chose to cover when he was the lead.anchor on NBC, I always thought he tilted slightly left.
In the role he has now, he has the space to expand that a little bit. And, he has some of the best panels, often carefully chosen to balance each other, he doesn't ask them particularly leading questions, and most importantly, he lets them talk without interrupting them.

(12,513 posts)like the Bush/Cheney repubs did who were embarrassed, and became independents after Bush lost both revenge wars.
Holt is that part of the electorate I will never understand. The Black republican who votes for the people and institutions that want to crush his culture, and kill his people without prejudice. The news mentioned there are about 1.5 million of them out of our countries pop. of 330M. I cannot comprehend the thought processes of people like Holt.
PatSeg
(47,711 posts)but I really would prefer that he stay at MSNBC. The Nightly News is a different format and his MSNBC show seems to bring out the best in him.

(70,779 posts)because of his mannikin clothes & grooming and thought he pushed his undeniable intelligence to the brink of pretentiousness and preciousness. Also, he was always getting himself on the late night shows and there were news items saying that that's what he really wanted to do.
After his fracas, with the long suspension and the apparent demotion to cable, he has seemed to want it more, show his intelligence without flaunting it, and focus on his news/commentary without showboating at the late night shows.
I thought and think of HOLT as a genial, journeyman reader, and not up to the anchor job although being a news READER as the Brits call them is all it takes. I have never watched him longer than a clip or so over years and didn't know/detect wingnuttiness, but not watching made it irrelevant to me.
