Do you think the Republicans in Congress WANT to start a depression on Biden's watch?
Yes, it's an odd question but listening today to Pelosi's description of the consequences of failure to raise the debt ceiling, I was struck by how easily the economy could be taken down by a combination of factors that we currently face.
- McConnell's pledge that his caucus will not vote to raise the debt ceiling again in December. - Fuel shortages and shipping slowdowns around the world. - Continuing supply line shortages and foul-ups. - Manufacturing shortages leading to layoffs. - Ongoing covid infections with the potential of further variants spreading. - Continuing climate breakdown. - Trumpists sweeping 2022 elections and paralyzing not only the Biden agenda but any Democratic attempt to mitigate American suffering. A combination of these circumstances could easily cause the national and global economy to fall off a very steep cliff. If that were to happen, Trump's reelection in '24 would be virtually assured, and that's all for Democracy, folks! What do you think?

1. Yes.
This has been pretty openly their plan. Crash the economy, stymie attempts to slow the pandemic, and count on Biden and the Dems getting the blame.

2. Yes.
They want President Biden to fail spectacularly. And the American people are too stupid to know who to blame.

4. I don't think McConnell can do much in the minority
Thankfully we have a year to ensure we keep both chambers. The logistics is a temporary hiccup that will be fixed.

This may be the only way we can survive the barrage....... |

15. Then, IMO, we're fucked.
Sorry to be such a downer. I had a brief exchange with a cousin who is a non-religious, moderate republican. He voted Trump twice, but doesn't really like the man, but has been brainwashed that dems are bad for the economy & national security. He's a total Fox news listener, thinks the election was stolen, but still was happy to be one of the first to qualify for a vaccine. So just like all repubs, he cherry picks his facts. IMO, he will vote Trump again. And he will blame Biden that Covid is still around & that the economy hasn't recovered. I think a lot of independents will think the same. I think the never trumpers are the only repubs we can count on.
Mid-terms don't usually favor the party of the sitting president. Our side is up against obstacles like never before. And their side is fired up on hate & emboldened by the perception they are getting away with it. And maybe they are. Who knows if the dems are just not showing their hand, or if they even have a hand? When Bannon doesn't show on Thursday, we will find out. |

7. Yes!!! The GOP will do absolutely anything IMO to wreck Biden's administration, and
then use that for their typical propaganda in 2022 and 2024. So many voters in the US just can not seem to comprehend WTF is going on and literally can't think for themselves.

25. And largely worked
but they didn't succeed in McConnell's ultimate goal of making him a one-term POTUS. And we got ACA and the economy recovered in spite of all of the sabotage (although likely slower than it otherwise might have). Of course, right now, we have even more problems and issues that they are keen to exacerbate.

for Trump. Evil is not an exaggeration in describing McConnell.

19. Yes. They blockaded Obama because they knew he's get credit for recovery...
...from the 2008 crash, but if the hobbled it and made it anemic they could blame him for the protracted slump. Conservative media would shout that spin and mainstream media would "both sides" it to death.
No different now. They want to prevent or cripple any Democratic success, and use that failure as their road back to power. |

20. No doubt, and they need it to happen.
They need a catastrophe to happen in order to drive the middle into their arms, if only for a short period of time. Just enough time for them to solidify their hold on power. It would be better for the GOP and the Uber Rich if it is the economy rather than a war or a terrorist attack. A wrecked economy would be easier to control.
The real money on Wall Street will do just fine and even come out ahead. When the rest of the country is in misery that will be their chance to take it all. |

30. They want to blow democracy up very badly because the GOP's history is so rotten when it comes to
governance and running the country. When they are in power either by the number or by the rules they screw up everything, everywhere and a Dem President and eventually a Dem Congress has to come along and fix it and make us look better than we actually are.
