December 8th is the date you must be vaccinated to continue employment here. We have 56,000 US employees.
I work for an Engineering firm, lots of really smart people. I am in aerospace, some of the leading minds in the industry share my office. I know of a couple who are going to quit over this. Propaganda works on smart people too. Always has. Smart, analytical people can be fooled into letting their emotions dictate their course of action too.
I am relieved to see this, but it's just sad to me that good people will be quitting over something like this, this should not be something that is even controversial.

(19,212 posts)There is no room here, if your company gets government contracts, you must be vaccinated. And it's even including contractors. I believe people who quit will have to leave the industry.

(799 posts)In the election in the fall of 2022 there is going to be a large pool of greatly disaffected voters who have lost their jobs and will seek revenge against Democrats. The anti-vaxxers will be out in force, and they vote.
This is very worrisome.

(58,785 posts)the odd district, Southern. Maybe some school boards and city counsels will undergo big ideological shifts.
From what I've read, not all these people are RW voters or even voters at all. LWers prone to irrational, or just dyfunctional beliefs such as being anti-vax, are less likely than average to vote at all or to vote Democratic if they do.
It will be interesting to see where and how elections are found to have been effected.

I see the mandate as carrying minimal political risk.

(799 posts)Not to mention that silver, brass, etc. are not magnetic and you couldn't pull them in even with an MRI magnet (typically 1.5 Teslas or 15,000 Gauss). [Earth's magnetic field is about 1/2 Gauss.]
They use brass tools at CERN. And those are massive magnets. If those magnets don't affect brass, no magnets will!
(I got a tour of CERN back around 2001 or so. I was in Montreux for a conference & luckily got wind of a tour being arranged. I got one of the last seats on the bus. Most impressive facility!)

(19,212 posts)We have a website where you enter in your vaccination info, it gets checked against the county records. People lying are in for rude awakening.
And the religious exemption aren't going to be rubber stamps either, HR is going to do due diligence on every single one of those.

(6,617 posts)I'll call it the Antivaxegenarian religion. All we have to do is set up a time and place to meet. Each person that donates gets a card stating that vaccines are against their religion. I could make a lot of money lol.

(6,864 posts)"Smart, analytical people can be fooled into letting their emotions dictate their course of action too", your statement. A reasonable enough apology if one is interested in highly educated, mathematical-type people getting a pass because they're just "crazy kids at heart" who've been led astray by that mean old propaganda.
How about redefining "smart" to exclude those who don't have the sense to pour piss out of a boot. It doesn't take much IQ to recognize TFG as a total piece of shit. Not recognizing that is really a classic case of too damned stupid to breathe. Propaganda be damned. If you can look at the GOP and see something besides unadulterated greed and evil then you have failed basic human recognition skills 101. If these over-rated SOB's quit their jobs over their inane internal conversations then good riddance to them. I wish them all the luck they deserve.
If TFG occupies the Whitehouse ever again how many of these "good people" will be willing to speak out about the propriety of "loyalty requirements/lists", house to house warrantless search/detain and an up-surge in the tendency to forego habeas corpus? The "new order", enforced by Trump's bully-boys-in-red-white-and-blue (off their leash), promises to be very liberally administered. And it's only a razor's edge, a few miscounted votes here and there, from manifestation even as we speak.

(19,212 posts)December 8th, you get fired if you're not fully vaccinated. No severance package.
They aren't effing around, good.
What amazes me is some of the comments/questions from people. People whining just assume that their view is the majority when probably 80% of people are in favor of this mandate. Questions like, "Did the company threaten to take this to court?" Questions about who will be validating the medical exemption? Like we don't have a medical staff capable of doing that.
Sick of bending over backwards for the 1 in 5 people against Covid vaccines, done with accommodating them. The 80% want life to go back to normal, so deal with it.
Johnny2X2X
(19,212 posts)The whiners are just an odd bunch. They just can't fathom that they are the small minority, even after management went through the previous voluntary survey that showed 70% of people are vaccinated (probably low because a lot of people just ignored the survey), they're acting like this will be a massive number of people leaving. They just don't get that if they choose to get fired rather then get the shot, they're going to be in a select group of perhaps a couple dozen people at our site with 1000 workers.
They think they're the "silent majority" even when presented with evidence at least 70% of us were already fully vaccinated as of a few months ago.
It's high time this small minority of the country stop ruining everything for the rest of us, we want things to get back to normal, it's time for them to accommodate us, not the other way around.
