What took so long for another mass killing

Strange thought. I'm here thinking "Gee I'm glad this didn't happen sooner", and there you are thinking "I hope it happens again soon".

I think if we spent more on mental health programs and supported early diagnosis and invervention/support, we would see a definite decrease. Of course we need to chop the balls of the NRA and get illegal guns of the streets, that might help too. Don't we usually find out after the fact that the shooter had mental health issues and/or was emotionally disturbed? The safety net for the mentally ill has been cut to shreds; maybe it's time to focus more attention and more $$ there. Maybe the rights of the mentally ill will become the next big civil rights movement... me thinks?

This appears to be someone who had a restraining order, but we've yet to see any history of mental illness. It doesn't mean we don't need more funding for mental health care, just that it won't solve all our problems.

True. But I think it will solve many of our problems. I've had a lot of experience over the last 5 years dealing with the mental health system. There is a LOT of room for improvement.

Is there a discussion group on this specific topic? I have read a library on this issue, trying to get a handle on what was happening some people very close to me. I read to understand them, to understand the system, to learn how to support them. One of the most disturbing things I learned early on was how the mentally ill are so easily criminalized and/or end up in the criminal justice system. I fought hard so many times to make sure my people were not pulled into that system.

Anyway, I do indeed have all the answers (ha ha) and I just need to know where to share them.

Not only does our civilian mental health system need overhauling, but the VA system as well.

It is shameful that this country doesn't do more to help the men and women who have served and who are struggling mental illness like PTSD. at least it looks like we're moving toward parity where, at least as far as I know, health insurance companies can no longer limit the number of visits they'll cover for mental health services like therapy.

So there was one mass shooting 2.5 months ago and one a week ago, then this one. Looks like it averages out to more than one a month already.

I know you're being sarcastic, but really, we're already there.
