they don't like or because of who the Mayor is? I just wonder with the stats that show how many police lives have been lost to COVID if many actually have taken the vaccine but won't admit it?

I think the FOP has too much power in some of these cities--and I am PRO-UNION. But, enough. Unions aren't there to defend stances that put the public at risk--not to mention their own police officers.

So, mix that with a few toxic magats and you've got a bunch of brutal authoritarians and followers who believe that the "public good" is whatever they say it is.
Weird. Not too many years ago, I thought most cops were decent. Now? I suspect that a few are relatively decent on an individual basis, but that the workplace culture in the vast majority of departments is toxic to communities.

(420 posts)While the FOP has never supported any of Chicagos Dem mayors, the heightened need to prove their loyalty to Trump and authoritarianism as well as do everything to undermine a Dem makes them dig their heels in and be so extreme and unwilling to work together. As traditionally Democratic as this city is, I worry that the highly publicized increase in crime news may make us ripe for people willing to try something just to make a change like so many did in the 2016 presidential race.
The fact that she is a female, a black and a lesbian who had police reform as a major platform plank just makes these authoritarian entitled white males who dominate the police Union all the more obsessed with undermining her.
