Half my husband's family is not vaccinated. So, they are not invited.
I used to host both families for Thanksgiving. I'm a good cook so everyone always came. We stopped talking politics 5 years ago and I've drifted from the Trumpers.
I'm done. In a way I'm glad I can use the vaccine as an excuse.
what is everyone else doing?

(1,332 posts)Last year I made thanksgiving dinner and everyone just came, took some home, and my
husband and I had it alone. This year we are having 2 friends, ALL of us vaccinated, and
the son of one of them who is also vaccinated. He is a teacher in a catholic school and while
there is no mask mandate (I wish there was) most of the students have been vaccinated and
all of the teachers. 5 of us altogether. So we'll just have him and my husband at opposite
ends of the table and the rest of us in the middle. And there's plenty of room to spread
out in the living room, where I imagine "the guys" will be watching the Lions lose yet another game. Come to think of it, we will probably have our booster by them. 3 of us are Moderna and
one is Pfizer. She's already had her booster.

(2,220 posts)I did the Friendsmas feast, and we delivered to-go plates to those who would have been at our table if not for Covid.

(2,220 posts)Everyone on the guest list is already triple vaxxed, except a couple Team Modernas. We usually have a group of 6-8 for dinner.
I do most of the cooking, and a friend with a huge house hosts. The last two years, he has also done the turkey. Were already planning for the big feast!

That's probably what's going to happen.

(34,070 posts)The place we frequently go is my sister-in-law's. Her son, unfortunately, is about as right wing/anti-vax/anti-mask.
The last party we went to there (in May - still masked), the nephew (unmasked) got in the face of another masked SIL (with lymphoma) and deliberately breathed in her face. A fist fight almost broke out. Not up for that again. But it's family and if the case rate is low enougn and the county vaccination rate is high enough I might agree to go to socialize but not eat and take my food home to eat later.
We will be having an early Thanksgiving with my family in my parents' retirement community - siblings coming in from out of town. We're all fully vaccinated, largely agree on politics, definitely agree on COVID. I'm probably the most cautious, but not by far. My sibling (and maybe my father) are the least cautious. We've all managed to get through the pandemic so far with none of us being infected.

(9,174 posts)except our granddaughter, who at 10, isnt eligible yet, but who is here several days a week anyway, for cyber school. If the FDA and CDC approve it in time, shell have at least one dose by then.
Last year we cooked some, and our daughter cooked some, and we traded on our front porch, socially distanced. A friend also stopped by for socially distanced leftovers. This year should be easier.

(13,360 posts)Maybe I go see my folks and bring them some food, but they are fading and I never know when it's gonna be the last holiday with them. Maybe I can get my daughter to come with.
We're vaxed, my elderly parents aren't... they are just old and I guess they think if it's gonna be the way they die, it is what it is. They aren't political about it, just over it ALL I guess

(32,639 posts)... but we're spread all over the place from Denver to Minneapolis to Houston to Pittsburgh to upstate New York.
Not sure who's up to travelling and none of us have a house that's big enough for the whole family. After my parents passed we sold the big house, and the sibs are all pared down to 2 and 3 bedrooms now. Fun fact: I'm the oldest of 9, most of my sibs are married with their own kids. Some of us are grandparents now.
Long story short - we only get everyone together for weddings and funerals any more.
And even that's not a given, in Covid times.

(19,564 posts)12 of us all of age are vaxxed (two are too young) and all our vaccinated are boostered. So, masks use religiously before and careful protocols and were all hoping we can meet at my home for one of my big feeds. Great-grandma is 88 and every holiday we get with her is extra special at this point. ❤️

(11,465 posts)Visited family out of state last month on my side, hubby's daughter coming to visit in a few weeks.
I am still 4 weeks today, sugar and flour free and not ready for big temptation. Luckily my hubby is not a foodie like me so doesn't care. I ordered organic small turkey, going to make stuffed mushrooms instead of stuffing, mashed potatoes gravy only for him, some vege and raspberries with cream for dessert and a glass of wine. No frills but treat for me,

(58,785 posts)Normal years our people-collector DIL makes sure it's a crowd.
This is another Covid Thanksgiving, though, and it may also be someone's last -- cancer, which is causing some mentation problems. So a few of us will be spending it together. And hoping it's not.
With three interested cooks contributing, dinner will be good but likely fairly simple. The one sure thing so far is Ocean Spray Jellied Cranberry Sauce because we still haven't heard the end of it from a certain person after he was served a really excellent cranberry compote instead.
