Conservative as a general term is "averse to change" and "holding traditional values". However, to understand why they behave the way they do, you absolutely have to look deeper into where those ideas come from.
All people have some level of aversion to change. Change can be scary, especially if the way you think things should be, is being threatened.
Conservatism as a political philosophy started in the 1700's based primarily on the writings of Edmund Burke and Joseph de Maestre, an Englishman and a Frenchman who were both of the nobility. They were writing in defense of monarchy and aristocracy as the natural and ordained state of government, as that was being challenged by the French Revolution. America was obviously not in favor of monarchy, but there were definitely Founders who detested what they called "mob rule" and they certainly had a hierarchical view of human nature and society. The conservative movement has never really rejected that idea, even if they have moved away from the idea of Monarchy as the natural state of government. Conservatives believe in a hierarchy at the top of which sit Wealthy White Men. That is the core of their ideology. All of those "traditional" ideas and aversion to change are reaction to movements of the poor and middle class to challenge the idea of hierarchy and push for more equitable distribution of wealth and power. The "traditional" family is based on the idea that the man is the king of his castle and women and children are at his command.
Conservatism as a political ideology is "watered down, ineffectual fascism" - Ian Danskin
The current batch of "conservatives" are shedding the trappings and are moving forward to the natural end point of the conservative movement...fascism.

(7,365 posts)They are using mask mandates to prove "Left Wing Fascism", much the same way they considered Hitler "left" because he was in the National Socialist Party (even though he persecuted and even outlawed true left wing parties). Everything righteous is because of Republicans and the Democrats are both Communists and Fascists. And the idiots lick this shit up.

(82,849 posts)That sent the civility cops into an absolute tizzy. If they've recovered yet (and they may not have, the mannequin head was simply awful, and that Kathy Griffin is just too horrid for words) they might have something to say. But then again, it's a Republican, and the phony strictures of so-called polite society don't apply to them, and aren't they just so maverick-y?
I think that about captures the Schoolmarm Ethos and its unsuspected flexibility when applied to different people and different situations.

(18,133 posts)The phrase or hashtag relates to NASCAR racer Brandon Brown.
Brown recently won his first Xfinity race and was interviewed post-race with fans chanting in the stands.
The chants by the fans seem to say fuck Joe Biden in protest of his presidency but the reporter during the interview said the chants said "Lets go Brandon."
note- I had to look it up. I can't believe a Congressperson would say this on the floor of the House. This is worse than the time the guy yelled "You lie" during one of Obama's State of the Union addresses.

Adele is facing some stiff and foul-mouthed competition on the iTunes charts right now. While "Easy On Me" currently sits at number 1, right behind her is an artist you probably never heard of: Loza Alexander, with his MAGA anthem "Let's Go Brandon."
Loza actually tops the Rap/Hip Hop charts with the track; in fact, if you look further down the top ten, you'll see there are two other tracks with the exact same name, at numbers 4 and 9 right now. So who the hell is Brandon, and why are people cheering for him? Turns out, they're not really cheering for Brandon at all.
It all started with NACSCAR racer Brandon Brown winning a race at Alabama's Talladega Superspeedway on October 6. As NBC Sports reporter Kelli Stavast interviewed him afterwards, she excitedly pointed out that the crowd we're cheering "Let's go Brandon!" when they were very clearly shouting "F--- Joe Biden":

(5,861 posts)Many of their followers act like children too. For example, Hillary Clinton had the guts to tell coal miners in Appalachia that they would be losing their jobs and that she had a plan to help retrain them and get them other jobs. They acted liked children and threw a tantrum when they heard the hard truth. "But my pappy worked in the coal mine and his pappy worked in coal mine, and his pappy before him worked there. Coal mining is in my blood, it's my heritage."
Talk about an unfortunate group of people acting like they're entitled to their jobs in the mine. I do have empathy for them- I would hate to be in their position living where they do and having such few prospects. But the GOP fucknuckles they vote for aren't going to take care of them. The Dems would like to help these folks to be able to transition to clean/renewable energy jobs and will allocate the money and other resources to do it. Once again, the Dems are cleaning up messes made by the juvenile "Republicans."
The GOP act like children about Covid-19, about wearing masks, about getting vaccinated, about so-called liberal cancel culture, and worst, about the outcome of the 2020 election. Some of this stuff would be laughable but this immature bullshit is going to get more people killed.
